Learning Lexicons From Speech Using a Pronunciation Mixture Model

ABSTRACT In many ways, the lexicon remains the Achilles heel of modern automatic speech recognizers. Unlike stochastic acoustic and language models that learn the values of their parameters from training data, the baseform pronunciations of words in a recognizers lexicon are typically specified manually, and do not change, unless they are edited by an expert. Our work presents a novel generative framework that uses speech data to learn stochastic lexicons, thereby taking a step towards alleviating the need for manual intervention and automatically learning high-quality pronunciations for words. We test our model on continuous speech in a weather information domain. In our experiments, we see significant improvements over a manually specified expertpronunciation alexicon. We then analyze variations of the parameter settings used to achieve these gains.

Sensor-based Identification of Human Stress Levels AbstractIn this work we present a mobile stress recognition system based on an existing activity recognition system using a hip-worn inertial measurement unit and a chest belt. Integrating activity knowledge, the prediction of different human stress levels in a mobile environment can be enabled while the state of the art is focussed on stress recognition in static environments. Our system has been implemented on an Android mobile phone and evaluated for different Bayesian networks as classifiers. Our implementation is able to operate in real-time with a stress inference rate of 1 Hz.The results of this work indicate that the implemented system is able to differentiate between the states No Stressand Stress in a mobile context. A more detailed distinction of stress in five substates has not been possible in a reliable way to date. With our results, the proposed system can serve as a basis for further improvements with larger data sets and for in-situ testing during disaster assessment. 3. The Smartphone Accessory Heart Rate Monitor: This paper describes a design for a smart phone accessory that aims to determine the human heart rate, especially for cardiac patients who need to monitor their heart rate, it being an important indicator for prognosis and diagnosis, and also share it with their physician anytime to seek medical advice when needed. The goal of this paper is to present our design of this compact sized and user friendly smart phone accessory that can be accounted in clinical care and practice. 4. Bluetooth Remote Home Automation System Using Android Application This paper presents the overall design of Home Automation System (HAS) with low cost and wireless remote control. This system is designed to assist and provide support in order to fulfill the needs of elderly and disabled in home. Also, the smart home concept in the system improves the standard living at home. The main control system implements wireless Bluetooth technology to provide remote access from PC/laptop or smart phone. The design remains the existing electrical switches and provides more safety control on the switches with low voltage activating method. The switches status is synchronized in all the control system whereby every user interface indicates the real time existing switches status. The system intended to control electrical appliances and devices in house with relatively low cost design, user-friendly interface and ease of installation

PERSONAL SAFETY TRIGGERING SYSTEM ON ANDROID MOBILE PLATFORM

ABSTRACT Introduction of Smart phones redefined the usage of mobile phones in the communication world. Smart phones are equipped with various sophisticated features such as Wi-Fi, GPS navigation, high resolution camera, touch screen with broadband access which helps the mobile phone users to keep in touch with the modern world. Many of these features are primarily integrated with the mobile operating system which is out of reach to public, by which the users cant manipulate those features. Google came up with an innovative operation system termed as ANDROID, which is open system architecture with customizable third party development and debugging environment which helps the users to manipulate the features and to create their own customizable applications. In this paper, Emergency Based Remote Collateral Tracking System application using Googles Android Mobile Platform is addressed. Emergency is divided into three categories: heart beat based emergency, security threats like personal safety and road accidents. This application is targeted to a person who is driving a vehicle. Heart rate monitoring device is integrated with our application to sense the heart beat of a person driving the vehicle and if there is any abnormalities in the heart beat, then our application performs a dual role. One in which, application uses a GPS to track the location information of the user and send those location information as a message via SMS, email and post it on Facebook wall Simultaneously, an emergency signal is sent to Arduino Microcontroller. Road accidents are quite common, this application is also designed to detect the accident using the sensors in the Android Mobile. Security threat can occur anywhere, our application also answers for personal safety, when the user interacts with the application by pressing the button, then automatically the application generates the geographical information and sends that location information via SMS and email to a pre-stored emergency contact and the same information will be posted on users Facebook wall. This application is written in JAVA programming language which runs on Eclipse Integrated Development Kit.

Microcontroller-based Wireless Heart Rate Tele monitor for Home Care

Abstract: Homecare is the provision of health care services to patients in their own home. One of the main purposes of homecare telemedicine is to develop a wireless, low-cost and use-friendly system which allows patients to measure their own vital signs, such as heart rate and temperature, and provide the health care professionals with the facility to remotely monitor the patient's vital signs quickly and easily. The gadget would then activate a GSM modem (SIM based) and also a GPS (global positioning system). The gadget would then take out the location reading from the GPS. Other vital information such as Heart Rate and temperature is taken and sent to predefined numbers. The receiver will get an SMS which will contain information of the senior person with his/her position co-ordinates and his/her current status (Heart Rate). An onscreen display will start scrolling the persons name, address and contact details so that people who try to help such a person get the complete information from the device
