This is a special project using my ily Pad !e"agons, but I thought it deser#ed to be a pattern in it$s o%n right taking into consideration the construction and lining &'yes, se%ing too((() Don$t let this put you off ho%e#er* as the he"agons are +uite solid and the bag %ould not necessarily need to be lined' it just gi#es it more support,

So if you are tempted to gi#e this a go you %ill need to crochet -. ily Pad !e"agons http/00psicrochet,com0portfolio1items0lily1pad1 he"agons0

Se% -- of them together as in the picture belo% 1

The top and bottom of the image abo#e %ill be the sides of the bag and the left and right %ill be the top edges &I ha#en$t photographed it but the round handles %ill fit into the indents the he"agons make at each side),

Notice the top and bottom edges form a zig-zag below I have numbered one side -

To construct the bag take another ily Pad !e"agon and se% it to the main piece abo#e along sides 2, ., 3, 4, 5 6 7 &using all 5 sides, it %ill enclose the he"agon completely), and then se% side - to side 8, 9epeat %ith the other he"agon at the other side, :ou should no%

ha#e a ;bag$ shape* attach your yarn to any stitch in the top edge of the bag and %ork a single crochet into e#ery double crochet and chains around the top edge < in the inner corners of the he"agon shape at the front and the back single crochet 2 together and similarly at the top of the he"agon ;points$ %ork =2 single crochet into -st chain, chain -, 2 single crochet into 2nd chain>

To attach the round handles, look at the image abo#e and see that the round handle %ill fit bet%een the . he"agon ;sides$ of the front and the back of the bag, To attach hold the bag the opposite %ay to the picture abo#e, %ith the body of the bag to%ards you and the open top of the bag a%ay from you* join your yarn into the chain stitch in the middle of the he"agon point to the right of %here you %ill attach

the handle, :ou %ill no% %ork a single crochet into each stitch around the . sides and as you %ork these stitches you %ill %ork o#er the handle < this ;catches in$ the handle and secures it to the bag, To illustrate this 1

Insert your hook into the ne"t stitch and hold the handle abo#e the stitch,

Catch your yarn around the hook,

?nd pull through the stitch, No% %orking o#er the handle, yarn around hook again,

?nd pull through both loops to finish the single crochet, Carry on around the . he"agon sides,

Finish off %ith a slip stitch into the chain of the he"agon point to the left of the handle, ?ttach other handle on opposite side in the same %ay, @ea#e in all ends,

To line the bag* I am not an e"pert seamstress by any means and there may be a more professional %ay of making a lining for this bag, but this is the %ay I cobbled a lining together and I$m pretty happy %ith it,

Aefore you attach all the he"agons together as abo#e, make a template of one of the he"agons < I did this #ery un1scientifically by dra%ing around one 1

Cut this template out and use it to reproduce on your lining fabric the layout of the first -- he"agons used in the construction of the bag 1

I$m sorry for the rubbish photo, but you should just be able to make out the -- he"agons, I also dre% around 2 single he"agons,

I then marked a -03 inch seam allo%ance around each shape, getting to use my +uilters rule for the first time( @orth e#ery penny'

I then cut these out around the seam allo%ances,

Constructed in the same %ay as the crocheted bag abo#e, and %ith some muttering and the odd curse, I machine stitched the separate he"agons to the main body of the bag

The top edges I then folded do%n the seam allo%ances and ironed closed %ith %onder %eb < I cut notches in the fabric to enable this 1

I then pinned the lining into the crocheted bag, and machine stitched to attach, %orking from the inside,

I then crocheted the handles on as abo#e and #oila(((((
