Proven Performance for Over 50 Years 5
COX Flow Measurement has been the icon of turbine flowmeters since its inception. The installation base is a testimony to customers who have discovered the performance and longevity of COX turbine meters and associated electronics. DESCRIPTION COXs superior performance is credited to the axial helical rotor design, which enhances linearity, repeatability and speed-of-response and reduces pressure drop. A single-bearing design minimizes friction and delivers linearity beyond that of the standard 10:1 range. This bearing system also extends the repeatable range to 60:1 on small meters and up to 150:1 on large meters.
In addition, COX Flow Measurement offers the EC80 flow computer, which will linearize the meter within 0.1% linearity over the entire repeatable range. This flow computer offers temperature and pressure compensation with multiple outputs for frequency and analog in engineering units. COX precision flowmeters utilize an improved, extended 6-vane support to reduce fluid swirl from entering the rotor. Ceramic ball bearings are standard for improved durability. The 316 SS housing exceeds the pressure ratings of the AN (MS) fittings. Hex or square housings make it easy for tightening the threaded fittings during installation and removal.

LOFLO SERIES
Bearings are the key factor in performance when measuring low flow. That is why COX Flow Measurement uses ceramic ball bearings, which are near perfect in roundness within 10 millionths of an inch variation. This means lower friction and less vibration, which equals superior repeatability.
The COX LoFlo Series is a robust axial turbine flowmeter with exceptional repeatability of 0.25% of reading. When paired with the EC80 Flow Computer, the calibration data is linearized to within 0.1% of reading, allowing for precision flow measurement over the entire usable range of the meter. COX LoFlo Series flowmeters are not position-sensitive and can be mounted in any piping orientation. The custom long-life, ceramic low-friction ball bearing system used in the COX LoFlo Series meets the demands of water, hydrocarbons and cryogenic fluids. Capable of measuring flows as low as 0.006 GPM (0.024 LPM), this meter is an ideal solution for a multitude of applications. Typical uses include fuel injection production systems, blending of costly chemical additives, onboard fuel consumption, refrigerants, dye injections, and more. Ceramic ball bearings have much less fiction than journal bearings and provide a wider measureable flow range with superior repeatability. The COX LoFlo Series is designed to be rugged and repeatable with the assurance of the most accurate calibration provided on our positive displacement primary standard calibrators.

MODEL NUMBER EXAMPLES: CDX3/4-F1-CB-R-XXX and CDL1AN-CB-R-XXX Bearings are the most critical component of a turbine flowmeter in terms of both repeatability of the meter output and the security of the calibration over time. This is why all COX Flow Measurement turbine meters use ceramic ball bearings. There are several advantages in using ceramic material: Ceramic can be used in non-lubricating fluids Ceramic is non-corrosive and heat-tolerant, making it ideal for water or hydrocarbons Ceramic offers near perfect roundness, minimizing vibration Ceramic is harder and measures RC 75-80 as compared to SST at RC58-65 Ceramic is 50% lighter than SST, extending the life of the bearing
All the above attributes reduce heat, providing five times more wear resistance. Ultimately, this preserves the calibration of the meter, while being more tolerant to particulates.

1. Unconditioned flow enters flowmeter. 2. Straightening vanes smooth the flow as it enters the first rotor. 3. Flow transfers momentum to the first rotor, making it spin counterclockwise. Flow then exits rotor, with a clockwise spin. 4. Flow enters second rotor with a nearly perpendicular angle of attack, thereby transferring additional momentum to the second rotor. This additional momentum results in greatly extended turndown. 5. Flow exits flowmeter. 6. Dual pickoffs transmit the rotor frequency signal to remote instrumentation. NOTE: The ratio of both pickoff frequencies is used for bearing diagnostics.
NOTE: 1. Calibrations are performed on primary standard calibration equipment operating in a NVLAP-accredited facility with an uncertainty of 0.5% of reading. 2. Solvent ranges from 1 to 1.14 cStk = MIL-C-7024C, Type 2 @ 80F. 3. Blends are a mixture of oils and solvent to obtain a specified viscosity.

CALIBRATION CAPABILITY
Calibrations are performed at COX Flow Measurement, a NVLAP (Lab Code 200668) accredited facility using Primary Standard Calibrators producing 0.05% of reading uncertainty.
Customers can select from a variety of calibrations to enhance the accuracy of the flow measurement reading. Often, manufacturers perform water calibrations and then use a correction factor. This can be misleading, as the calibration curve will vary in more viscous fluids. COX Flow Measurement avoids calibration shifts by using the actual fluid viscosity in the calibrator to develop the calibration curves. Multiple calibrations can be provided to form a single Universal Viscosity Curve, which adjusts the frequency/viscosity relationship to match the actual temperature of the known fluid. CALIBRATION CAPABILITY Liquid Flow Measurement: 0.0025 to 1,500 GPM hydrocarbon 0.75 to 1,000 centistokes viscosity 0.01 to 300 GPM water Gas Flow Measurement: 0.001 to 3,500 SCFM in air 0.001 to 400 SCFM inert or flammable gases Gas correlations for toxic gases Partial vacuum to 500 PSIA Primary Gas Calibrators: Uncertainty: 0.20% to 0.25% of reading Repeatability: 0.10% of reading CALIBRATOR UNCERTAINTY Primary Liquid Calibrators: Uncertainty: 0.025% to 0.05% of reading Repeatability: 0.012% of reading
COX Flow Measurement is a participant in the NIST round robin proficiency tests intended to eliminate calibrator bias. This goes beyond traditional NIST traceability and provides correlation data using NIST flowmeter artifacts to compare directly with NIST calibrations.

FLOW STRAIGHTENERS
Required on single rotor turbine meters to condition the flow. Flow conditioners larger than 1/2" have internal straightening vanes and are furnished standard with pressure taps. Temperature taps are also provided. AN End-Fittings Flange End-Fittings NPT End-Fittings Tri-Clover End-Fittings
INSTALLATION
COX Turbine Flowmeters can be installed in any position, without affecting performance. To reduce flow turbulence, COX recommends using flow straighteners, which have 10 diameters in length upstream and 5 diameters in length downstream, with vanes. Where impractical due to space limitations, careful attention to the location of valves, bends, etc., is suggested. A 10-micron

Semi-automatic calibrators are available for OEMs with high-volume calibration requirements. These systems incorporate flowmeter quick-load fixturing. CALIBRATOR CHECK STANDARDS
Check Standards are used to verify the repeatability of a primary standard calibrator. They ensure that nothing has changed in the ability of the calibrator to repeat its former calibration data. Calibration data curves should lay over each other within <0.1% over the entire range of the Check Standard (30:1 turndown). Check Standard sets are offered with every PDCL Series calibrator.
COX Flow Measurement Check Standards are used by NIST in their intra-laboratory test to determine bias between primary standard calibration labs for the armed forces and major labs.
