ROTC raises money for scholarship funds Ashley Duke/Blake Harris TNE Writer/Editorial Board

The NSU RiverHawk Battalion is raising money for their organization today in the UC. ROTC relay teams are rowing 26.2 miles using rowing machines. We are here to raise money, and 20 percent of all the money raised today will go to the Silent Warrior Scholarship Fund for injured soldiers and veteran, said Capt. Jason Uphoff, director of military science.

The competing teams were ROTC A team, ROTC B team, ROTC instructors and graduated students, Muskogee Crossfit women, Muskogee Crossfit men and Tahlequah Crossfit. There was also an extra rower for anyone who wanted to experience the competition. Rowing was fun, said Ty Anderson, Rogers, Ark., sophomore. The only hard part was the first 10,000 meters, then after that your legs go numb. It took me two hours and 47 minutes. Students may participate in the event as well. Students can row on the machine for $1 per 100 meters. I rowed and it was painful, said Tyler Elmore, Muskogee junior. My right leg and my back both started to cramp up after the race. It was worth it though. For more information, email uphoffj@nsuok.edu or click here. Published 3/11/14
