y of extension subject to funding) London WC1 Lancelot Capability Brown changed the face of eighteenth century England, designing country estates and mansions, moving hills and making flowing lakes and serpentine rivers, a magical world of green. As the first ever celebration of Browns extensive works, the Capability Brown Birthday and Festival brings together in a national campaign a huge range of events, openings, exhibitions and conferences. New research and a full listing of the sites attributed to him will help build knowledge about Brown, his creative and technical skills and fix him at the forefront of modern thinking on design and management of the natural environment. Browns sites provide opportunities for young people, volunteers, owners, managers and local communities to increase their abilities and knowledge in site interpretation, guiding and writing. Artist, inventor, genius; Capability Browns work has already influenced many at home and abroad. The Festival will inspire new generations of visitors, participants and experts to leave a legacy of new information, skills and enthusiasm for designed landscape. The Landscape Institute is the lead organisation for the Festival. It is working in partnership with English Heritage, the National Trust, the Historic Houses Association, the Association of Gardens Trusts, the National Gardens Scheme, the Garden History Society, Natural England, Parks & Gardens UK, Visit Britain, Visit England, NADFAS and KOLAB Digital. Role To deliver the development plan agreed with HLF in line with the agreed budget and to prepare the second-round bid for submission. Responsibilities Liaise with owners, including potential hub site owners, to ascertain how they would like to participate and the opportunities they might have to promote the national campaign; create

a project plan for each site, with the aim of opening as many sites as possible. Advise owners about best practice in management. Working with the CB 300 Knowledge Group, create and pilot templates and a quality control plan for research, information and interpretation materials, to meet the needs of the widest possible range of participants and audiences. Develop and pilot a volunteering plan to recruit, train and support volunteers across those participating sites who have asked for support, with a particular focus on people new to this type heritage. Identify twelve urban sites which offer the best potential for involving non-traditional audiences; develop proposals for this work and pilot them. Develop communications and education strategies and materials, with the aim of engaging as wide a range of people as possible, including communities relevant to their local Brown site. Use all this and other relevant work to develop and submit the Stage 2 application to HLF.

Person specification Experience

Development of volunteering plans with a particular focus on engaging non-traditional volunteers. Development of audience outreach programmes. Project management of HLF or similar project Monitoring and accounting for HLF or similar project Ability to write HLF applications and activity plans Ability to engage successfully with a wide range of people Ability to ensure key milestones are achieved and a tight timetable followed. Ability to lead a small team An interest in the heritage of designed landscapes, gardens, architectural and heritage issues Use of social media and an awareness of the scope of digital interpretation
