St. Matilda Patroness of parents with large families!

Lest we forgetit was announced at the January Parent-Board meeting that the amount needed to raise before the end of the school year was roughly equal to that of our Golf-AThon goal. We had our kick off meeting two weeks ago, and we are still woefully short of commitment sheets. PLEASE WE NEED ALL DADS ON DECK. Please return the sheet in todays envelope we are losing time to make our calls and meet our goal. The event is only 6 weeks away! Remember, the Golf-A-Thon is NOT about golf we have several non-golfers come and golf during the day. [Those of you courageous non-golfers know why I put golf in quotes. Those of us who have ducked and swerved away from your club and golf balls also know why it was golf.] This event is, rather, a fun opportunity to SHARE THE STORY. [Brochure enclosed in blue envelope if you want to use more available.] Here are the simple three things we do when we participate in the annual St. Augustine Golf-AThon: 1. Commit to pledging ourselves ($1 per hole or more). 2. Commit to sharing the St. Augustine Academy story with colleagues, business associates, customers, suppliers, vendors, bankers, insurance rep, etc. We tell them we are going to golf 100 holes, that you sponsored yourself for $xxx, and ask if they could match or beat your pledge. [Everyone gives to charity, and since people give to people, this is your opportunity to share your story share that St. Augustine Academy is a GREAT place to allocate some of March, April or Mays charitable dollars.] 3. Give a day and play ---- one hundred holes of golf. This is the celebration for all your hard work. We have raised between $40,000 and $60,000 the last several years.

This years basketball tournament will be on March 24th. (Monday) and March 25th. (Tuesday) At St. Bonaventura High School gym. Boys and Girls will play on both days. We will start at 3:30 each day and the Championship games will be Tuesday Starting around 6:00. I will be sending out the seeding (brackets) after the season ends. Intramural Soccer The league is rolling along! Games are scheduled daily after school throughout the month of March. Thank you Mr. Rossi, and student organizers. If students are staying to watch, they need to be on the field sidelines as fans, not roaming around campus or playing ball on the sidelines (could interfere with the game.) MEDIEVAL DAY - Individual preparation for Medieval Day should be well under way by now... but in case you're not up to speed, students should come to school on the 25th of March in full uniform (including TIE, since we start with Mass.) Also, students are to bring their medieval costume with them for the activities that begin after the morning mass and rosary decade in honor of Our Lady. Costume choices should reflect the high middle ages in western Europe. Students already know what country/court they belong to and should try to arrange their costumes to match the official color of their team. Knights should have cardboard armor. Ladies, maybe a headpiece with veil. [Please do not feel compelled to re-create an authentic medieval costume accenting is sufficient. However, if the students want to get some scrap materials and build full-on costumes, cheer them on. If anyone needs help with this, please inform Mr. Zepeda. EARLY next week so we can provide some assistance.] Weapons should be either plastic or cardboard... no metal or wood, please. Other costumes should be in accord with the school's code regarding modesty. Also for individual preparation: If participating, artwork in any of the six categories posted in the hallway. The teams will be judged on knowledge, skill, and courtly behavior and an awards ceremony for the winning team will close the day at 2:20ish (pm). Plans for the midday banquet are being organized by Mrs. Susan Grayson. If any families could loan us free-standing dining fly shades/canopies for pavilions, we'd be very grateful. Parents who want to observe are more than welcome... and we could use help with photography and videography. CALENDAR EVENTS Mar 17th Saint Patricks Day!
