EXPERIMENT 2:I-V CHARACTERISTIC CURVES FOR DIODE, RESISTOR FILAMENT BULB & LED

LEARNING OUTCOMES The purpose of this experiment is to: Investigate the I-V characteristic curves for diodes, resistor, filament bulb & LED

APPARATUS: Computer and Science Workshop TM interface (2) Voltage Sensors (CI-6503) Power Amplifier II (CI-6552) AC/DC Electronics Lab Board (EM-8656) Patch Cords

PROCEDURE Science Workshop TM Interface Setup: There is no need to calibrate the voltage sensors:

PART I: DIODE PROCEDURE: 1. The setup of this experiment is as shown below:

Figure 4. 2. Before you start to make the graph, click the experiment and go to set sampling options and choose automatic stop. Set the time 8 seconds. 3. You are required to connect the voltage sensor from channel A to the diode and the diode series with 10 resistor. In Science Workshop TM Interface activate the voltage sensor and press the start button once you have made the graph available. 4. Once the characteristic curve for diode is ready, repeat the experiment by using a LED(part II).

Before you start to make the graph, click the experiment and go to set sampling options and choose automatic stop. Set the time 9 seconds. 2. You are required to connect the voltage sensor from channel A to the LED andthe LED series with 300 resistor from. In Science Workshop TM Interface activate the voltage sensors and press start once you have made the graph available. 3. Repeat the experiment if necessary, to obtain a good plot graph.

DISCUSSION 1) Contrast and compare the I-V characteristic curves obtained for diode, LED, resistor and filament bulb. 2) Comment on the relationship between the current, (I) and Voltage, (V) of the diode, LED, resistor and filament bulb.
