When the router is equipped with a redundant RP, it can be installed in any of the five regular line card slots. Line CardsUp to five OC-192 line cards, four if redundant RPs are installed. These slots are hot-swappable: A failed card can be removed and replaced with the router powered on.

12010-12410-12810 Most Cisco 12010, Cisco 12410, and Cisco 12810 series routers fieldreplaceable units (FRUs) can be removed and replaced with the power on and the system operating. This is known as online insertion and removal (OIR). Power supplies, line cards, the RP, CSCs, SFCs, and alarm cards all support OIR. Unless otherwise noted, the maintenance tasks described in this chapter can be performed while the router remains powered on. In some cases it may be necessary to power off the router, for example, to upgrade both power supplies and PDUs. Use the following procedure to power off the router.

12012 The RP must be installed in upper card cage slot 0. If you have two RPs in your Cisco 12012, the second RP must be installed in slot 11 (from left to right). The factory configuration has the RP installed in slot 0. Line cards installed in the Cisco 12012 support online insertion and removal (OIR)

12016-12416-12816 AlarmThe far left slot is a dedicated slot for an alarm card. Slots 0 through 6any line cards supported by the router. Slot 7The far right slot is reserved for the RP. Slot 8The far left slot is reserved for an optional redundant RP. Slots 9 through 15Can be populated with any line cards supported by the router. AlarmThe far right slot is a dedicated slot for an alarm card. The Cisco 12000 series router supports online insertion and removal (OIR), allowing you to remove and replace a card while the router remains powered on.

Serie 7500 7505 The Cisco 7505 has five slots: four interface processor slots and one slot for the Route Switch Processor. The Cisco 7505 supports 4 VIPs, one for each interface processor slot. 7507 The Cisco 7507 has seven slots: interface processor slots 0 and 1, Route Switch Processor slots 2 and 3, and interface processor slots 4 through 6. The Cisco 7507 supports 5 VIPs, one for each interface processor slot.

7513 The Cisco 7513 has 13 slots: interface processor slots 0 through 5, Route Switch Processor (RSP2, RSP4/4+, RSP8, or RSP16) slots 6 and 7, and interface processor slots 8 through 12. The Cisco 7513 supports 11 VIPs, one for each interface processor slot.

7576 The backplane of the Cisco 7576 has 13 slots. Router A uses interface processor slots 0 through 5

with a Route Switch Processor (RSP4/4+ or RSP8) in slot 6. Router B uses interface processor slots 8 through 12 with a Route Switch Processor (RSP4/4+ or RSP8) in slot 7. The Cisco 7576 supports 10 VIPs, one for each interface processor slot; 6 VIPs are supported in Router A and 5 VIPs are supported in Router B. Serie 6500
