Size US 6 (4.0mm) and US 7 (4.5mm) DPN's or circular needles

Pattern Notes
Cable 4 right: slip first 2 stitches onto cable needle, hold in back. Knit the next two stitches, knit the
two stitches off the cable needle.
Cable 4 left: slip first 2 stitches onto cable needle, hold in front. Knit the next two stitches, knit the two
stitches off the cable needle.
Make 1: For this pattern I made one stitch by picking up and knitting the strand laying between the
stitches, but feel free to use whatever method you prefer.

Body
With US 6 needle cast on 40 sts, join in the round being careful not to twist.
K2, P2 for 2 inches.

Switch to US 6 needle again and K2, P2, for 1 inch or until desired length. Bind off all stitches in
pattern.
At this point you can either stop, finish the thumb, and wear the mittens as fingerless mitts, or you can
continue onto the flip-top directions.
Flip-top
You'll be using your US 7 needles for this part again. With the front side of your mitt facing you, pick
up 20 stitches one row below the K2,P2 ridge at the top of the mitt. Cast on 20 stitches. Join in the
round with the front side of the mitt facing you; otherwise you might end up putting the flip-top on
backwards.

Decrease rounds:

Break yarn and thread it through the remaining stitches. Draw tight and secure on the inside.
Thumb
Open thumb (for fingerless mitts): Move thumb stitches from waste yarn back onto US 7 needle. Pick
up and knit 3 stitches from the top edge of the thumb hole; 12 stitches total. Join in round being careful
not to twist. Knit in plain stockinette for 3 rounds. Knit 2, Purl 2 for 3 rounds. Bind off loosely, and
weave in all end.
Full thumb: Move thumb stitches from waste yarn back onto US 7 needle. Pick up and knit 3 stitches
from the top edge of the thumb hole; 12 stitches total. Join in round being careful not to twist. Knit in
plain stockinette until work reaches fingertip of wearer.
Knit 2 together around.
Break yarn and thread it through the remaining stitches. Draw tight and secure on the inside. Weave in
all other ends.
If desired, attach a button to each cuff and a loop to the top of each flip-top to secure it in place when
not in use.
