Running Head: PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

It is my strong belief that every child has the right to an education. Therefore, as a special education teacher, each and every one of my students is made to feel welcome and are given the ambition they need to learn. My basic role as an educator is to impart information to students, but in my classroom I go above and beyond those expectations to give each student the appropriate amount of attention that they require on any subject. My lesson plans are carefully constructed to guide my students toward achieving the days objective without confusion. My lesson plans also follow the Common Core State Standards, and I view those standards effectively and accurately in my classroom. As an educator, my attention is not only focused on standing in front of the classroom and implementing information to my students, but to also use various types of education tools and methods in my classroom. My students engage in critical thinking when doing independent or group work throughout their time spent in the classroom. Many of my lessons also include hands-on learning which can be both effective and enjoyable for my students. I incorporate technology in my classroom through the use of the smart board which provides a great learning stimulus in the classroom. I also use the levels of James Banks multicultural curriculum in my classroom. In addition, I am also a culturally responsive teacher, and I am fully aware of my students different ethnicities, race, and cultural backgrounds. I am fully aware that each of my students have different backgrounds, therefore, it is strongly enforced that all of my students will respect one another. My students will not only demonstrate this in the classroom, but outside of the classroom as well. I view my school as a community, and in a community we work together toward the same goal, educating the students and keeping them safe. I work with my colleagues to achieve this goal just as a community would work together to help one another.

PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

As an educator, I am aware that some of my students have disabilities which might cause them to struggle in the classroom. However, my ambition and experience to teach every student in my class will not prevent me from guiding those students to reach their academic potential. They may require more attention than other students, but my ability to get through to each student will shine at its brightest when dealing with such student. I am aware that performance by a student in the classroom can also be impacted by what is happening at home. It is my role as a teacher to understand that what the student is going through at home can affect their performance or behavior in the classroom. Every child has the right to an education. I believe this, and it has become my passion to educate children. I leave no student trailing behind his or her fellow peers. I am also aware that no one is perfect and I may not be able to reach out to every student, however, that does not mean that I will not try my hardest to do so. I reflect upon all of my experiences in my classroom, and I believe it makes me strong not only as an educator, but as a person.
