D. Materials: Houghton Mifflin Kindergarten Social Studies Book: School & Family (pgs. 96-101) one for each child Journals one for each child Pencil Crayons -colored pencils Paper E. Objectives: o o o NV State Social Studies Standards G8.1.1 Tell how the physical environment affects activity at school, i.e., inside/outside recess. Student-Friendly Standards G8.1.1- I can look outside and be able to tell the weather and what activities I can do.
F. Vocabulary Weather- the air and moisture outside Season- the time of year
G. Procedure: 1. Have the students look outside the window and tell if its sunny or cloudy. (If there is no window the class will go outside and observe the weather.)

picture. 3. Then have a class discussion on certain activities you can do when its sunny, rainy, snowy or cloudy. The activities will be written on the board. 4. Introduce the vocabulary to the students and tell them the difference between weather and seasons. 5. The teacher will then read and ask the students review questions. 6. Questions that will be asked are; (TE) What is weather? (TE) What are two kinds of weather? (TE) Can it snow when its hot? (TE) What is a season? (TE) What are the names of the four seasons?
7. The teacher will then have the students look at the chart on page 98.
8. The class will have a discussion on what people can do depending on the temperature\ season outside. H. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? Create a picture book (TE page: 99). Each child will make and create a picture book representing the four seasons. They will be able to draw details about each season and what the weather looks like in each season. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. Students must identify what happens in each season. Students will also draw pictures of what activities they can do in each season.
