Post Meeting 7:00 PM Election of Officers

CHAPLAIN'S CORNER:
April is almost here, we have had a little rain to help all of us and we hope you are able to enjoy each day. Hugh King had a beautiful service at the Dixon National Cemetery. A large group from our Post and friends were there to bid him Farwell. Edi Clonce has started her radiation treatments, 5 days a week for 6 weeks, and we all hope this will make her well. I have heard from many of you that have sinus infections and flu symptoms. We pray that all is better now and good health to all of us.

Veterans and Family Support:

The district is asking for gently used purses and totes to sell at their convention with the proceeds going to Marie Kluglow Scholarship. If you have any to give, please bring them down to the Post. We have received many donations of clothing for the Stand-down which is in September but we need more and Thanks for helping. We took lunch out to McClellan to find many of the personnel have been assigned to more training programs. It makes one realize how serious this world situation has become. This program for our Wounded Warriors is near its end. We will keep you posted.
Thanks very much, Jean Jones

WAYS AND MEANS

Easter afternoon at 1:00 p.m. we will have our Easter Egg Hunt and as usual, we are asking for dyed hard boiled eggs. Plastic eggs with candy or money inside are big winners, also. Our Bunny will be there to greet the children, giving out candy and goodies and having his picture taken with the children. We always have Chili beans, crackers and cheese, etc. and deserts for everyone. Dianna and Janis Medina run the show and always do an outstanding job. April 27, 2014, we are cooking a Spaghetti Dinner for our District 17. It is a fund raiser to assist those running for offices. The time is 6:00 p.m., the cost of $10.00. Please come! It is a good way to show you appreciation and to support your V.F.W. Post. Happy Easter to All and Count your Blessings
Thanks very much, Jean Jones

This month an unusual case came before your Service Officer. Our Commander met a vet with a housing problem. This, in itself, is not rare and more often than not it is not anything I can help with. I met with the man and was expecting to have to give the bad news that V.F.W. Field Service Officers are not authorized or qualified to apply to the V.A. for housing benefits. As I talked to him and heard his problem I found that I in fact could help him. I was in the same boat as he about a year and a half ago. He was not homeless, but he could not stay where he was and had no idea where to go. I then produced an application to Eskaton Wilson Manner (where I reside). Turns out this was just what he was looking for. I told him about the veterans preference and the other fine things about the place and he went down and got himself on the list. I sometimes have to remind myself that not all the things a Service Officer can do involve the V.A.
