AUSTRALIAN STUDIES MIDTERM ASSIGNMENT

Indonesia and Australia are different country which have different point of view to each other. Indonesia and Australia are countries that have bilateral and multilateral relation to support the country. Indonesia and Australia have own perception to each other. The each country describes positive and negative ways to describe each other. The background knowledge about the country is the most basic. Most Indonesian said that Australia is likely the western countries likely US, British, or Netherland which ever colonized Indonesia. Some Australian know Indonesia as a good destination to have a holiday such as Bali. The other Australian also said Indonesia is a good, rich, and friendly country. That is the general description about each country that is not all of them correct. The most specific one of describing each country help the people to know the country they are talking about. The perception of each country is also influence the mass media that take a big role and part as a system of distribution and convey the information or news. The perception influence people way of thinking in the society towards each country. The most basic knowledge to know the country is not enough to judge the country.

Indonesian attitudes towards Australia are mostly in positive ways but some in negative ways. Indonesian political system is democracy which is the most comfortable for the country in this time. Indonesias political system is about democracy that Indonesian feel enjoy to this system. Indonesia and Australia are using democracy but in different way. Indonesia uses a presidential but Australia uses parliament. This system democracy makes different way of thinking in political system. Indonesian perception about Australias political system is about a country that related to the Great Britain kingdom, commonwealth country. Most Indonesian people .. For the economic term, Indonesian perception towards Australian is about they are a welcome country which help Indonesia in economic term. Most Indonesian confidence that Indonesia will be ready to face he globalization era include the economic aspect. Indonesian think that Australia can be dangerous to ASEAN because the power of Australia. Australia now

as a temporary member of United Nation Security Council and it show that Australia has more power to control the world security. Whereas, the location Australia and ASEAN is very close, it may possible that power of Australia will affect the ASEAN. As a member of ASEAN and G20,

Australian attitudes towards Indonesia is generally about a democracy country. The perception of Indonesia based on the mass media and personal experience of the people who are ever visit Indonesia for different purpose such as business, travelling, politic, or education term. The Australian perception of Indonesia can be distinguished in the positive and negative aspects. The positive aspect about Indonesia is a good destination to have holiday. Most Australian likely visit Indonesia, especially Bali to enjoy their holiday. Some of them do not understand that Bali is a part of Indonesia. They know that Bali is a country not one of Indonesia province. This is because the social life in Bali is not representing the Indonesian social life that they know from the information. In those people perception towards Indonesia, Indonesia is democracy country which is Islamic. In Bali itself, mostly, people are Hindhu and they use traditional social life. This make the people assume that Bali is not part of Indonesia. Most Australian assume that Indonesia as a center of terrorism in the ASEAN that is dangerous. This assumption is normal because most people in the world are aware about terrorism that killed many people which justified by using the wrong way, the suicide bombing. The terrorism that make Australians feel Indonesia as a center of terrorism because any Australians killed in the bombing in Bali. The evil doers are Islamic people. These stereotyping about the Islamic is the terrorism is normal because most of suspects are Islamic. Australian assume that Indonesia should stop the terrorism fastly. The other positive perception about Indonesia is abut partner in bilateral and multilateral relation. Indonesia is the 13th significant country to Australias relation. In this term in economic aspects, such as export-import is the most controversial. Indonesia and Australia have

In my opinion, I have two aspects towards Australia. First is about the positive aspect from Australia towards Indonesia. Australia is a huge country which has a good contribution to Indonesia. Australia as a huge country and also continent need to export and import many things to fulfill the people needs. The relationships between Australia and Indonesia is in the economic, education, culture, political aspects, and any more. Those aspects are directly shown in Indonesia development. In education, Australia and Indonesia have scholarship for students and teachers. The scholarships improve the level of quality of Indonesian students and teachers. Indonesia gets teachers from Australia to teach English or about Australia or other term that related. Indonesia also sends some students to study in Australia. For political term, Indonesian attitude towards Australian nowadays is decreasingly because of some cases. The previous case is about espionage the president and the staffs. The ex Australian spy told the espionage case to the public about the case. There must be some reason backside the admission. The relation between Indonesia and Australia nowadays is not as good as before. This is because the Australian

government stated they wont to do apologize to Indonesia government. That is normal if the espionage of the country, all of country may be do the espionage to control and investigate the other countries. All of countries are competitors. But thee is something weird when an ex spy state that he ever tapped the Indonesian president. The negative aspects that I will said is about the invaders for the product and power. The power of Australia is almost like to the Russia, US, Great Britain, and German. The power of Australia nowadays is increasing because the relation between Great Britain and US. Both countries are the main member of United Nation Security Council. And the now, Australia join to be United Nation Security but not the permanent member. The power of Australia can be dangerous for the countries around Australia such as ASEAN. For Indonesia, the espionage that taken apart to the public is starting to make a war. Indonesia is not ready to war because Indonesia is powerless than Australia.
