TOTAL E&P Indonesie is a branch of TOTAL S.A Company in France. This company was a result of the cooperation of Indonesia Government with TOTAL S.A on July 6th 1968 which TOTAL became one of the biggest contractor BPMIGAS in Indonesia. TEPI stocks are owned by the TOTAL S.A as the major company. Exploration by TEPI started on Jambi where the oil is existed. Then, TEPI did the cooperative contract with the Japanese company, JAPEX (now INPEX), to do the exploration on Mahakam Offshore Block, East Kalimantan. Since year 2000, TEPI was recorded as the biggest oil and natural gas producer in Indonesia and supply about 80% from the needs of LNG platforms on Bontang, East Kalimantan. TEPI produced the oil and gas from Bekapai, Handil, Tambora, Tunu, Sisi-Nubi, and Peciko which are on Kutai Kartanegara District, East Kalimantan. TEPI has two head offices in Indonesia. Both offices are Jakarta Head Office at Plaza Kuningan, North Tower, HR Rasuna Said Kav. C 11-14, Jakarta and Balikpapan Office (East Kalimantan District) at Yos Sudarso, Balikpapan Jakarta Office is generally for the administration matters and project problems; Balikpapan Office is generally for the production matters.

2.2.1 Operational Region TOTAL E&P Indonesie Total E&P Indonesie started the exploration and exploitation on the oil sites in Indonesia after MoU with Indonesia Government by signing Jambi Production Sharing Contract on July 6th 1968. Then in 1970, TEPI became an operator to the Japanese Company, JAPEX(now INPEX), on offshore Mahakam Block, East Kalimantan. Since then, TEPI had a mission to explore, exploit, develop, and produce the oil and gas. This followed then by the discovery of the oil field Bekapai in 1972 and Handil in 1974, then the gigantic gas field Tunu in 1983, and Tambora in 1980. The discovery was continued by the discovering of Peciko field in 1983 and Sisi and Nubi in 1986. Those discoveries of natural gas fields make TEPI become the biggest natural gas producer since 2000. TEPI supplied about 80% natural gas production to Bontang (PT Badak), which is the biggest LNG Platform in the world. The supply of the gas also be transferred to the industrial areas in East Kalimantan, for example: urea factory, methanol, and ammoniac, for fulfilling the needs of the nations. Nowadays, the hydrocarbons production from Mahakam Block records is approximately 500,000 Barrels of Oil Equivalent per Day (BOEPD), consists of 80,000 Barrels per Day (BPD) natural oil and 2400 Million Metric Standard Cubic Feet per Day (MMscfd) gas. On March 22th 2004, TEPI succeeded to achieve the highest hydrocarbons production equal to 566,500 BOEPD. The production facility involved 562 production wells, one unit gas processing with 3,000 MMscfd capacity, piping facility with 1,200 kilometers long, 33 gas turbines, 15 platforms offshore production, 34 platform GTS (Gathering & Testing Satellite), and a SBM Tanker (Single Buoy Marine). The production fields of TEPI involve Bekapai, Handil, Peciko, Senipah Oil and Condensate Handling Terminal, Tambora-Tunu, and Sisi-Nubi field. TEPI also has some units of oil and natural gas processing built to facilitate the oil and gas processing before exporting it abroad. There are some processing units TOTAL E&P Indonesie owned :

1. Central Processing Area (CPA) Handil, for oil and gas from Handil. 2. Central Processing Unit (CPU) 1 and 2, for gas from Tambora and Tunu (Ta-Tun). 3. North Processing Unit (NPU), for gas from North Tunu 4. Senipah Oil and Condensate Terminal, as the main oil processing unit Bekapai and Handil and condensate from Tatun. 5. Peciko Processing Area (PPA), for gas from Peciko. 6. South Processing Unit (SPU), for gas from Sisi-Nubi Island. 2.2.2 Production TOTAL E&P Indonesie Total E&P Indonesie is on exploration and production of oil and gas. There are products TEPI produced, such as: Natural Gas Natural Gas now is a major production from TEPI. TEPI distributes the natural gas LNG in Bontang, East Kalimantan. About 80% natural gas which supplied to the LNG Plant in Bontang is the productions from TEPI. By the cooperation with another two producer in East Kalimantan, TEPI supports the development Bontang LNG Plant in East Kalimantan, a spectacular engineered innovation, where the north gas pipe from TEPI is processed and is made into LNG for exporting needs to Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. Here, gas which is from the TEPI field, processed and liquefied for asphalt and sold to Japan, Korea and Taiwan. Bontang LNG Plant now is the biggest gas liquefaction in the world.

Oil and condensate The invention of the oil field in Bekapai in 1972 is the first platform for TEPI. The field area is 20 km2. It is located on the East Kalimantan offshore around the Makassar Strait. In the end of year 2009, 423 wells were bored and the production nowadays for the oil is 20,000 BOPD. The oil from Bekapai is transferred from the bottom sea pipes 12 inch long, and the oil from Handil transferred is separated and stabilized and then exported by SBM.
