Second year of Design an Ad highlights creativity of area students

Last December we invited area students to take part in the Commercial Dispatch Design an Ad contest. Our participants had The Dispatch delivered to their classrooms, and combined with a curriculum provided to the teachers, were given the opportunity to learn about marketing and ad design. To say we have some very talented artists in our area is Beth Proftt an understatement and it was a delight seeing what the students produced for the businesses that were assigned to them. Each student had the option of producing either a computer generated or hand drawn ad entry. Those entries were then presented to our area advertisers and they chose which ad they would like to be published in this section. We also did some judging of our own and selected one rst place winner from each grade level in the hand drawn and computer generated category to receive a $50 cash prize. How an ad is constructed, the wording used, the font chosen, the art displayed and the color choice are things we think about every day here at The Dispatch, as we want the ads that publish in the paper to catch our readers attention and to benet our advertisers and their businesses. Area students were also asked to provide content for our section by submitting writing entries. Thank you to

Mrs. Beth Greenes 6th grade Language Arts class from Caledonia Middle School for their participation in the One Mans Trash is Another Mans Treasure category. We hope that you will enjoy reading these as much as we did. The brightness and creativity of these area students should certainly be showcased more often. Many thanks to the teachers who chose to make this program part of their teaching day for a month and congratulations to all of our winners. And a very special thank you to the advertisers who participated, as you showed your support of our area children and your local newspaper. We look forward to next years edition, and hope to have many more entriesand winners! Beth Proftt Dispatch Advertising Director

I would treasure this because I love computers. The rst thing I would do is hook it up to the internet. Hopefully, I could put it in my room. If my brothers are nice to me, I might would let them play on it, too. It would be fun to do school projects if I had this computer. Maybe this computer would make reading more fun for everyone.

I would treasure this because my mom will yell and yell to clean my room. It makes me mad when she is yelling at my to clean my room when her room is a mess. The cleaning people would clean the whole house. She would come two days every two weeks. My mom would be much nicer. If I had them I could come home to a clean house that would be great. I will treet her like a normal person and give her days off.

I would treasure thes items because I really like puppies and Shitzhus. I love puppies theyre so sweet. I would buy millions of puppies if I could and play all the time with them because they play and they run with you. Theyre so pretty and theyre cuddly. They can be so playful some times or they can be so MEAN. I have a Shitzhu and shes so playful, sweet and funny. Sometimes my Shitzhu she plays with me for 2 hours straight. Thats a lot! Her name is Bella. She loves Ethan and me so much when we get home she runs to us and wont go away until we are asleep. The end.

I would treasure this 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan cause I can lift it up 6 in. and put new mud tires on and go mudding. I can go anywhere with a truck with good mud tires. If I want to go some where, any where I can. If it gets too hot, roll down the sunroof. It can go fast 120 or 140 mph. Thats good mud riding! I could get a new paint job and new windows. If I had this Dodge truck it would change my life. It would be cool to have this truck.

I would cherish this car because I love Camaros. I would save it for many generations. I could drive my kids to school in it. I could take my family on vacation. I would take it to car shows for many people to see. I have a lot of care for Camaros because of the strong way they are built. It would have a lot of senominole value in it because my papaw used to work on old cars such as Camaros. I would take good care of it, and I would wash it every month. I would give it a white pait job with black racing strips. I would take my friends to Los Vagas on a guys trip. I would take my wife, on our honeymoon, to the beach. I would cherish this Camaro because it would change my life.

Ahhha dark brown leather sofa with recliner on both sides! I can just picture me reclining back and drinking a nice and cold lemonade, so relaxing! I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE this item! Me and my dad have always dreamed about a sofa like this! We thought it would be like TOTALLY awesome to have this particular item! I would treasure this item because #1, I really want a sofa in my bedroom. #2, it would be me and my dads sofa ONLY, we could watch movies, eat popcorn, and play the Wii ALL while relaxing in a recliner sofa! And nally #3, I LOVE recliners and sofas, put them together, and I would be the happiest girl on Earth!

I would treasure this camper because I could go anywhere I want. I could go sleep in the woods in it. I would be able to go other places and not have to pay for a hotel room or any thing. All I have to pay for is the gas. Plus it would be fun to get out ounce in a while. It would be fun to be with my dad in the camper out in the woods with no girls to worry about. If it has a window we could hunt out of it and use the oven to cook it. It would be a lot of fun to have this maroon camper. Hail State!!!

I would cherish puppies because they are cute and lovable. I love animals because they are lively and soft. If you care about them, they care about you. I would also use them to help my sister overcome her fear ofDOGS, DU-DU-DUUU! Maybe, if she helped me raise a puppy she wouldnt be scared, if I could get her to pet it rst. I also want to be a vet, so the puppies would help me learn how to handle a lot of animals at one time. I would also learn how to handle a heap of responsibility. They would be lots of fun and could teach me lots of things.

I would treasure a pet so I can play with it when I get it. It can comfort me when I get lonely. I can play with it and take it over my friends and cousins house. If I am gone with my mom or to church, it can watch our house for us. I can walk it and let it get good body strength. One day when I am sick I can let it make me feel better. It can play with my sister and my mom when I am sick. I will let it stay with my cousin because he love pets, too.

I would treasure this item because one day this house will come in handy when I get kicked out of the house. Ill have my own when I get out of college and have a full time career as a doctor. I will have a husband that cooks and cleans and a well behaved little girl that has a interest as a teacher or a home maid. Ill have a dog that is a purebred and that has a good line of health. If I dont get any of that other stuff, then it will be just for me! Thats why I will treasure the other peoples trash. Its a treasure to me!

I want to treasure this item, because it is a house. I can do what ever I want, because it is my house. I can jump on the sofa. I can run through the house. I can play hide and seek in the house. I can do lots of fun stuff without getting in trouble. I will have alot of space to put stuff instead of just one room. I will have 3 rooms! I can go in the back yard, and there will be a fence. But there is one thing that is a promblemhow to get $64,500 to pay for the house and to pay the light, gas, and light bills. It sure is fun to dream, though!

The reasons why I want this couch are because this way Ill be able to sit and watch tv. Ill be able to be comfortable while I play video games. When I want to sleep somewhere else than my bed Ill sleep on the couch. Also, when more than one friend comes over they will have somewhere to sleep? Also, when its time for me to study, Ill have somewhere to sit. When my friends come over to play video games with me, we would all be able to sit on the couch. My brother and I would be able to eat on the couch.

See the reason why I chose this for my treasure is because when its cold outside and you dont have anything to keep your house warm, then all you have to do is call this number 662-364-1258 for some rewood. And also if you have to pay for the rewood and you dont want to pay for it all you have to is cut and haul away. For more information please contact this number for your rewood. 662-364-1258

I want this treasure becauseI love dogs. They are the best to me. They are all wormed and have gotten their shots. This is good so you dont have to spend all that money when you get a dog. Chihuahuas are small, great lap dogs, and easy to take care of. They dont have to have a lot of food that day to eat, so a big size dog food bag would probley last up to two months. Chihuahuas have to be groomed a little more than other dogs but I think its worth it because they have long hair and you can do a cute poof on top of their head to get the hair out of their eyes. So thats why I want a Chihuahua for my treasure.

If I had Cocker Spaniel puppies I would cherish them forever!!! Those puppies and I would eat, sleep, play, REPEAT! I would try to make them happy whenever and however I could because I know if I had Cocker Spaniels it would sure make me happy. I love swimming and running and having fun!!! (You can probably tell by now that I am very energetic.) Maybe because they are half American Water Spaniel they will swim with me!!! (because I plan on living by water.) I will have someone to talk to and laugh with! I will love this huggable critter forever and ever!

I would treasure a house because I could make new memories. I would pay all of the rent for the house and buy it. It also states that it has a large yard! It will be lovely for children. I would play outside all day. I could have a giant Thanksgiving dinner, and have an even bigger New Years party. I would always welcome people to my new humble home. Sigh I wish I could buy it right now. Although I have no good experience, it seems very cheap. I have never realy liked big houses, so a small cottage is very nice and just the right size.

I would want this dog because we lost our black lab, Luke, last year. I feel sorry for Liv, the dog we have now, because she is the only dog at our house. We have 5 cats at our house. Yeah, 5. My mom has a sympathy problem when it comes to animals. Anyway, I feel like Liv is lonely being surrounded by ALL cats. Also, we probably dont need a girl dog because Liv is protective against other girl dogs. This is good because this beagle is a boy dog. Just to add on, I have always wanted a beagle.

I would name it SWAZY! I would take it every where. They make great tracking dogs not that I need anything to trackdown. It would be soooo cool to get one of these Precious Darlin Angel dogs! I would treasure this gunrack because I have a lot of guns, but now a lot of room for the guns. I would most likely keep it for a long time because I will probably need a place for guns. I have a lot of guns because I really like to hunt. I mostly go hunting with my dad though. This gunrack could be big enough to hold some of my dads guns and some of my own guns. My dad and I both would most likely really like this gunrack. It would go really good in my dads and my hunting room. In the hunting room we have knives, guns, bullets, and shing rods. This is why I would admire the gunrack.

The reason I chose a puppy is because Ive always wanted one. They are easy to take care of because my Aunt has dogs and she taught me how to take care of them. Puppies are so cute and sweet. They also make me feel happy when they play around. My mom and dad say that I cant have a puppy because Im not ready and that they dont want a inside animal. Puppies are messy but it will be ok. One day I will get a puppy! We already have to outside dogs. They are bulldogs. My most favorite things about puppies are that they play with you and they are so small. I already have a cat but its not a inside cat. Thats why I want a puppy.

I would treasure a replace for my mobile home. During the winter we could go to Antartica camping now. We could have friends go camping with me now. For only $25 all this stuff you can do with a heater. We dont have to be tripping over cords now, because we have a replace insert that will keep us warm. I might not even need covers now. Wouldnt you like that? Maybe I dont get cold during the night now. Getting out of the cold walking in to a very warm mobile home. Dont you wish you had one?

I would treasure this puppy because I dont love animals. I REALLY LOVE ANIMALS! Now, I know what youre thinking. Why do I want this puppy so much? Because if the owner really doesnt like the puppy, they might hurt it or put it down. Another reason is, its only 5 weeks old. It can grow up knowing you! I really love puppies, also! What would I do if I got the puppy? Well, I would walk it, play with it, wash it, and most of all Love! Since its a boy, I wouldnt have to worry about little puppies! I will REALLY treasure this puppy!

I would treasure this house. It has 1.9 acres and it is priced at $112,500. You could have a wonderful time in it. It is a great and wonderful shelter, and most people dont have a wonderful shelter like this one. You could have great meals in this house. It could t up to lots of people and furniture in here too. In the 1.9 acres you could have a dog and a pool even with a swing set! Wow, how great is that? It could even be in your price range too!

I would treasure this Sanyo T.V. because I would be able to watch t.v. in my room, and be able to save and record my fav. t.v. shows. I will be able to watch Duck Dynasty without being interupted by my sister or Mom. I can go to sleep with my t.v. on and watch it in the morning as I get ready for school! I will also be able to have bed and breakfast and not leave my room on the weekends! My t.v. will not be turned off unless I turn it off! This is what I would treasure if I got this at screen t.v.

The reason I want this is because its a dog. I love dogs! Its a young Female which means you can still train her, and she is my Favorite type of Dog a hound. So that you can train them to hunt. She has a very unique name that I love so much which is Bella. She has also been spayed and got her shots. I love the white and brown color of her fur. She looks like she likes to play. I really want a playful dog. Well at least more playfull dogs. I an also good at drawing these certain type of hound dogs.

Suburban? For a twelve year old? Well, its actually a good idea. Think about this, parents have to buy cars and pay for everything else right? Well they would still have to pay for this because you know, I dont exactly have a job. Unless thats watching your neighbors kids after school Anyway, but buying this for me now would save money later. I mean its nice. Leather seats, A/C, nice and cool, and it will also keep my peeps cool too. New tires, a movie player too? How much better could it get? Just a little better The best part of all, its big enough to carry all my peeps! I have a lot of those! So anyway, you get the point. There you have it, the reasons why I want the Suburban!

Ruff, Ruff! Awww, you make me sooo happy. Thats what I want to hear everyday after I get these puppies. I want to see people that are lonely have a best friend and a smile on their faces. When I rst saw this ad, the idea just hit me, I wanted to make these precious little puppies into therapy dogs. I would bake some cookies and give them to the person as I walked in the door, for a little extra treat. They would stay there for about an hour, giving the sick child or the lonely adult a huge smile on their face, I would treasure that! Ive loved the idea of therapy dogs ever since I was little, I just didnt exactly know how to make one so loving. When I was little, I thought that when you bought a puppy, it was just naturally sweet. Now I know what a therapy dog truely is, and I would try my hardest to make a sweet, precious, loving dog. Wouldnt you like that?

I would treasure a Craftsman table saw. It is very handy and easy to operate. You can saw wood even faster than the other saws. When you use a Craftsman table saw you get the job done. I might get so good at it that I could make by dog, Tinker, a doghouse.

Being in the 6th grade, I know I cant drive yet. But if I could, Id drive a Dodge Ram. Why, you ask? Because its big, tough, and strong. What country girl wouldnt want a big, strong, tough truck? Plus, it has a sunroof, which makes it 1,000 times better in the summer! Now enough about the truck. Im sure you want to know WHY Id cherish it. Sohere it is Most girls, for a rst car would want a little beetle-bug, or some other small car, but I would want a Dodge Ram because Im 59 and Im only in the 6th grade! Being tall, I would need a car (or a truck) with lots of leg room. And the Dodge Ram has just that! AND if you start off with a little car, it might be more difcult to learn how to drive a big car, but if you start off with big car, driving a little car will be a breeze! So now you know why Id want a Dodge Ram! And now all I need is $6,000 and a permit! (and a lot of prayer)

I would treasure this job because my friends and I can get mani/ pedis and a facial. If I worked here, I would decorate it however I wanted to. It would be turqoise and hot pink with polka dots. It would be located in Caledonia, MS 39740. We would have manicures, pedicures, facials, and more. We would probably even have tanning beds. We would also have tanning lotion for tanning, and nail polish for manicures and pedicures. I would love a job at the upscale spa because I love having mani/ pedis with my buds.

I would treasure this because I would be able to start a business and make money with it. I could sell books, candy, and sports equipment. If my business got bigger, I could sponsor high school or college football games. With the sponsors, I could expand my business which would make my company larger. We would have more money and create more Jobs. Then I would spread it across the nation and then the world. When I want to retire, I can pass the business to my kids and they take the business and keep the business going. That is what I would do with it.

I would treasure a beagle, because when someone is feeling blue, and you give them the beagle they wont be feeling blue anymore. A beagle will be your best friend. It can do everything with you; for example, they can go shing and hunting with you and even much more. A beagle is a fox hunting dog, so if you have foxes it could help you nd the animal. Beagles are loyal, a good companion, and fun to be with. They sense when youre down, happy, or need to be loved. They make a great companion, and a wonderful friend that will be with you for life.

Someone might think a piece of furniture, like a dresser, is worthless, but it could be a treasure to someone else. For instance, my mom bought an old, dirty, worn down dresser and sanded it with a sander. She painted it a beautiful light blue with a brown glaze for the top layer. I now consider it my treasure. It doesnt even have to be a dresser. It could be something really big like a couch. To someone, a dusty, leather couch could be the most wonderful thing in the world, or their treasure. Some never think that one mans trash is another mans treasure.
