Valley Advertiser, is currently sponsoring an
Easter Coloring Contest, open to all kids in our
Stillwater Valley circulation area.
The contest features three age categories,
with first, second, and third place prizes to be
awarded in each group. One grand prize will also
be given. The picture to be colored can be found
on page 6 of todays edition or on our wesite:
www.arenspub.com (no other entries will be accepted).
Entries must be received at Arens Corp. (located at 395 S. High St., Covington)
no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 14. The judges decision will be final.
Family members of Arens employees are not eligible to win.
Winners will be notified by phone beginning Wednesday, April 16. All prizes
must be picked up at our office and winners will be asked if they can have their pictures taken so they can be published in our paper at a later date. Pictures will not be
returned.
All children who enter will be given a coupon for a free ice cream cone from
Als BP Station in Covington. Prizes are being donated by Sellmans, Covington;

Friends of the Cardinal Center

To Host Easter Bazaar April 12
On April 12, the Friends of the Cardinal Center will be hosting
their first Easter Bazaar at the Cardinal Center (Gettysburg School,
260 E. Main St.). Thirty vendors will be on hand with baked goods,
crafts, Velta, Rada, 31 Bags, jewelry, loom rugs, woodcraft items, doll
clothes, and specialty items, just to name a few. There will be door
prizes from the vendors that will be given away during the day.
Parents should bring their cameras, as the Easter Bunny will also
be there from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to pose for pictures with the kids and
anyone who is still young at heart.
There will also be a concession stand run by the Friends for anyone who wants to grab a hot dog or soda. The bazaar will be open
from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
The Friends of the Cardinal Center (facebook.com/cardinalcenterfriends) is a non-profit corporation formed to preserve the historical
and educational heritage of Gettysburg School. Their mission statement is Working to preserve heritage, build community, and enabling
success through education and inspiration.

Gades Celebrate 50th Anniversary

Dale and Karolyn (Philipps) are celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary this year. They are
members of Immaculate Conception Church of Bradford and were married by Father Joseph Wolfer April
11, 1964. They are the parents of three children Tammi and husband Mike Dross, Cherie and husband
Bernie Chiverelli, and Dale Jr. and wife Amy, all of Bradford. They also have four grandchildren Katelyn,
Chelsea, Chip, and Abby.
Dale retired from Copperweld in Piqua (formerly
Miami Industries) after 40plus years of service.
Karolyn worked for many
years at Bradford Awards
and Quality Forms, and then
retired from Industry Products.
The couple will be celebrating this milestone with

Goodwill Easter Seals Miami Valley employment specialist, Jeff Steele, is presenting a Community Employment Workshop at the Milton-Union Public Library on Thursday, April 24, from 12-2
p.m. The program is open to job seekers and sign-up is required.
Jeff will explain the Goodwill/Easter Seals Community Employment Program available to attendees and offer forms to enroll in the program.
Some of the things the program offers job seekers include:
Recent job leads pulled from Miami County, Vandalia, and Sidney.
Information for clients with a criminal background that explains the Federal Bonding Program
and gives a list of employers who may be willing to hire them.
Free rides for job seekers to employers in Miami County looking for workers.
Resums created either from information that pertains to their work history or through one-onone help with Jeff.
At the end of the program, Jeff will offer a Q&A session. Attendees can discuss topics such as
how a job seeker might enroll in school to help find a job, how to present oneself in an interview, and
additional personal experiences or knowledge Jeff can suggest.

Baby its cold outside!

Plus its also wet, dreary, overcast, heat still on and no sunshine. But were still Buckeyes forever.
Let me explain. About half way back on our 1200-mile journey home, I commented to Ginger, I forgot to
call the village to have our water turned back on. Why dont you call Julie or Brian and at least have the
heat turned up and check the house before we get home.
Julie and Brian Wombold are our neighbors. They have been living in Gingers home place since purchasing
the property after the death of Gingers mother. Theyre absolutely the best neighbors on this planet.
Hello Julie, this is Ginger. I called to see if you could have Brian open up our house, and leave us a bucket
full of water, so we can flush the toilet. Well be home today, she explained. Gary forgot to call the village
to have our water turned on.
It wasnt 30 minutes later when Julie called back. Ginger, I just wanted you to know that Brian is calling
Jay Roberts to see if he will come down and turn your water on?
That would be great, Ginger, laughed. But its Sunday.
A few minutes later, another call came with the news that Jay was coming to our rescue, and Brian would
check for leaks (if any) and air the house out for us.
Isnt it great to live in a small village that people care about each other?
This entire incident reminded me of the time Ginger and I were out shopping and knew we had reached our
time limit with our dog Rosie.
Just call Julie and have her let the dog out for us, I disclosed.
Ginger dialed the phone, and I could tell there was no one home, and she was leaving a message. This is
Ginger, were still in Dayton, and I was wondering if you could stop and let Rosie out to do her business.
Thanks!
After we had returned home, Ginger answered the door, to find Joann VanCulin standing on our porch
asking if Rosie was all right?
Yes, shes fine. Why do you ask? She replied.
With a puzzled look Joann answered, Because you left me a message to go and let Rosie out.
Only in a small town could you have dialed a wrong number, and leave a message to let your dog out, and
the person on the other end would come and do it.

This weeks bottom line: I love small towns!
