maintainedthroughouttheyear.Ingeneralstudentsfeelasenseofprideintheschoolanddo theirshareinmaintainingit.Whilewemaynothavethoroughdocumentation,Mr.BillBishopof ourmaintenancestaff,isakeyplayerinmaintenanceofourschool.Ourgroupisawarethathe keepsthoroughrecordsofhissafetyinspections.AdditionallyMrs.Shirley,ourheadcustodian, isveryorganizedinschedulingandsupervisinghercrew.Thereisnowrittenplanforher cleaningstaff.Mr.Faith,ouradministratorinchargeofschoolsafety,hasdocumentation regardingthesafetyprotocolsfortheschoolandhowspecificneedsarebeingaddressed (attached).Theoneissuethatisbeingaddressedishowthebuildingislockedupandsecured. Wehavemanyactivitiesthattakeplacethroughouttheyearatnight.Manydoorscanbeexited andenteredthroughouttheschoolbuilding.Onesuggestionistoinvestigatedoorsecurity systemsthatmayhaveanindicatorpanelthatshowswhenadoorisnotlatched.Wefeelthat mostofourdoorsareleftajarbymistake. 4:4WedonothaveaccesstoanEXCEPTIONALMediaCenterandstaffbecauseourMedia Centerhastobeclosedfromtimetotimefortesting(accessbecomesunavailable,eveniffora shortperiodoftime).AccordingtotheguidelinesthataresetbytheGeorgiaDepartmentof EducationLibraryMediaProgramSelfEvaluationRubric(seeattachedCategory2Staffing),in aschoolofoursize(over970students)wefallshortofmeetingtherequirementsofan ExemplaryMediaProgrambecauseallmediaStaffisnotalwaysavailablethroughouttheday.In addition,thehighestcriteriaforaflexiblyscheduledLibraryMediaCenter(seeattached Category3Facilities,Access,andResources)requiresthatafacilityremainopenatalltimes forstudentaccessthroughouttheday.Wearecurrentlyunabletofulfillthiscriteriaduetoallthe extensivetestingthatisscheduledyearlyinourfacility. Whilestudentsdohaveaccesstomediaandinformationresourcesatourschool,ourgroupis notcertainthatthereisaprotocolformonitoringhowtheseresourcesareusedandawayof routingtherightresourcestostudentswhentheyarereallyneededforinstruction.Theremay beschoolfacultywhoarenotawareofalltheresourcesavailabletoourstudentsandtherefore donotutilizethem.Ourtechnologyassistanceisgoodbutisoftenlimitedbytimerestraints. 4:5Certainconcernsoverbandwidthandserver/clientissueswhenitcomestoroaming profiles.OldhardwareattemptingtobepatchedwithnewOS.Limitedaccessto functional/efficienttechnology.Ourschoolseemsoverwhelmingoutdatedespeciallyregarding Windowsmachinesrunningonslowprocessors,inadequateamountsofRAMandoutdated software.Thesemachinesareveryunreliableandpronetohardwareandsoftware malfunctions.Additionally,becausethesemachinesaremanagedbytheCountyTechnology office,itcansometimesbedifficulttomakechangesorgetrepairsdoneinatimelymanner. Thelackofbandwidthandtheinabilitytoaccessmaterialsisanongoingissue. 4.Whatartifacts/evidence/documentswillsupportthisschoolrating?Wherearethese artifacts?Whohasthem? WehavecontactedMr.Lariscy,Mrs.Kitchings,Mr.Faith,Ms.Shirley,Mr.Dickey,andMr. Bishop.Alldocumentswillbeattachedtomorrow.

5.HowcanSEHSimprovetoreachthenextlevel?(ifnotrateda4)Bespecific.Whatdoes theadministrationneedtodo?Whatdoestheteachersneedtodo?Whatdoesthe supportstaffneedtodo? For4:3:SEHSisverywellmaintainedintermsofappearanceandcleanliness,howeverstronger securitymeasuresarecurrentlybeingaddressed.Attimes,adoorhasbeenfoundunlockedat night,thusjeopardizingthesecurityofourenvironment.Apolicyhasrecentlybeen implemented,butnoeveryoneisadheringbythenewmandate,ie.,keepingalldoors,including classrooms,lockedatalltimesduringtheschooldayandafterhours.SEHSisasafeplaceto be,butwithcurrenteventsthathavecomeuphighsecurityisamust.Thisgroupalsofeelswe shouldhaveawrittencustodialplanforourhardworkingcustodialstaffandforourmaintenance staff.Teachersandsupportstaffneedtocontinuetoworkdiligentlytomakesurealldoors remainsecureatalltimes. 4.4:Essentially,SEHSneedstomodernizehowtechnologyandresourcesaredistributedwithin theschool.Theutilizationofuptodatehardwareandsoftware,integratingthepositiveuseof mobiledeviceswithinthelearningclassroom,andhavingthemostcurrentdigitalresources availableforbothstudentandteacher,woulddrasticallyimproveSEHSoverallandallowforthe obtainmentofthenextlevelsineachstandard. Theadministrationneedstocomeupwithafeasibleplanforupgradingthetechnologyand resourceswithinSEHSandsticktothetimetablecreatedforsuchimplementations.Also,they needtotrainthesupportstaff,basedontheirknowledgeofsaidtechnologyandresources,so thattheyareabletocarryoutthetechnologyplan. Thesupportstaffneedtobetheonesthataretrainedintheknowledgeneededtoupgradeand maintaintheseplansthatwouldallowforallareastorunsmoothly,correctlyandinatimely manner.Also,oncethissupportstaffiscompletingthesetasks,theyshouldnotbeutilizedfor workinotherareasthatdonotpertaintowhattheyarecurrentlyworkingon,astoallowthemto fullyfocusontheupgradeandmaintenanceofsaidplan. 4:5:Upgradingourtechnologythroughouttheschoolisessentialtostudentsuccess.Mostof thetime,whenwegotothemediacenter,atleastthreeofthecomputersarenotfunctioning and/orcomputerresourcesandMediaStaffhavebeenusurpedbyotheractivitiesordutiesas assigned,suchasOdysseyware.Withaclassofthirtyfivethisisdifficultwhenthereislimited spaceandtechnologyinthemediacentertobeginwith.Allstudentsandstaffshouldbetrained onnewtechnology,notonlyonhowtouseitbutshownhowitwillbehelpfulintheirareaof contentandbecontentspecificaboutitsapplication.Agoodinstructionalstrategyduring preplanningforallteachingstaffwouldbeforourmediastafftoteacha45minuteBest Practicessegmentonkeylibraryresourcesparticularlyourcurrentandnewtechnology resources(i.e.,GALILEO,Infotrac,EasyBib,LinuxMint,Windows7,etc.)withclear,handson applicationoftheseresourcesacrossdisciplines.Theteachersandstaffcanhelpusreachour nextlevelbyutilizingthecollaborativeplanningformintheMediaSignupbookintheMedia

Center.TeacherscanalsomakeanappointmentwiththeMediaStafforInstructionaltechnology staffforinstructiononissuestheymaynotunderstandsuchasresearchmaterialsandsoftware instructions.
