Project Title : Compartment Vegetable Gardening

II.

Background / Rationale :

Gardening is a good source of steady and free supply of vegetables essential for maintenance of good health. A big part of the expenses of daily living is the procurement of food which includes vegetables. Vegetables are acknowledged to provide a good source of nutrients and vitamins especially for growing up kids. A big problem in gardening is the area to lay out the garden. An innovative approach is to provide containers like plastic soda bottles, cans, bamboo, and other scrap materials that can be recycled into holding containers for vegetables.

Time Frame :

The initial time frame of preparing containers and providing and distributing vegetable seeds is 2 weeks. The barangay residents will take care of the growth and watering of the vegetables until they are ready for harvest. IV.

Objectives : The main objective of the project is to alleviate expenses of barangay residents and save money from procurement of needed food, especially vegetables. The compartment gardening aims to provide supply of vegetables to barangay residents especially the children. It also aims to make use of spaces and areas around the house to make it useful and clean. The objective for self sufficiency in terms of essential nutrients and vitamins derived from vegetables

Target Population :

The target population of the compartment vegetable gardening are the mothers and their children, numbering to ten (10) families, within a chosen area of the barangay willing to do gardening, and will benefit from the products of gardening

Activities :

The first task to be done by the students is identifying the households and its members willing to join the gardening, and can allocate an area around the house to place the compartments. The students and/or the barangay residents will collect scrap materials like plastic containers, cans, plastic bottles that will fit as plant holders. Prepare the scrap materials and containers and fill it with soil, or compost. Distribute and plant vegetable seeds to its corresponding containers with the help of the barangay residents Advise and encourage the resident to tender and water the vegetables regularly. Harvest the produce after a few months.

VIII. Monitoring / Evaluation Activities : 1. Initial assessment is made possible by counting the number of families willing to join the gardening. 2. 3. The amount of vegetable seeds distributed and the compartments used are accounted for. 4. Constant reminding and encouraging of the residents to water and take care of the vegetables can be done. 5. Assess the growth of the vegetables every 2 weeks and check when it can be harvested.
