Hajj and visits me, after I
have passed away is like he
visited me during my
lifetime. (Bayhaqi)
Whoever visits my grave, my
intersession becomes
compulsory for him.
(Bayhaqi and Dar Qutni)
GO WELL, DEAR
PILGRIM!
Often, when life gets
complicated and problems
are too big to solve, the
human spirit in its quest to
escape this ever-tightening
noose of complexities and
confusion seeks escapism.
More applicable to the
stresses of modernism and
capitalism, this desperation
to unwind, to find peace, has
led to results both good and
bad.
Except where the efforts
have led the seeker to
discover his most basic
reality and that is his bond
with Almighty Allah. This is
the root of existence, and
worship is the purpose of

creation. Deep within, every
Muslim knows this.
However being weak in
texture, man forgets easily,
especially when his attention
is seduced by his own ego
and the play-things of
materialism.
Going for Hajj is like
returning to the roots, an
opportunity to start with the
basics.
The pilgrimage is based on
visiting, witnessing, and
testifying to the truth as
Ebrahim (Alayhi Salaam)
and Ismaeel (Alayhi Salaam)
did in their total surrender
and obedience towards
Almighty Allah.
The Kabbah, Safa, Marwa,
Zam-Zam, Arafat, Mina,
Muzdalifah bear the proof of
the strivings of the
messengers and their success
in establishing the religion
for mankind and jinn, Islam,
and marking the road to the
one and only Allah.
Even a negligent believer
feels it within his soul that if
he were fortunate to make
the pilgrimage, his destiny
would change. He would
repent and attempt to start a
new life on his return.
His entire Hajj experience
including the visit to the
grave of the Holy Prophet

would leave him with faith
and conviction, needed to see
him through until the day he
returns to his Creator.
THE SPIRIT OF
HAJJ
Allhamdulillah we have
entered into the month of Zil
Qadh, which means many
Muslims throughout the
world will be preparing to
leave for a once in a lifetime
journey towards Makkatul
Mukarramah and Medinatul
Munawwarah. Most of the
people, who undertake this
journey, save up their
pennies and pounds for years
before this journey can
become a reality. The norm
is such in most cases, that
once sufficient money is
available, a Hajj agent
selected, Passport document
ready, injections taken, Visa
approved, and obviously
accredited by authorities, the
Hajee is set to go for Hajj.
However we tend to forget
that one is not set to go until
his intention for Hajj is
solely for the pleasure of
Almighty Allah.
Before one goes for Hajj it is
important that they ask

family and friends for
forgiveness if they had in
any way offended or hurt
someone’s feelings as such.
They should also seek this
forgiveness from within
themselves, from their
hearts. In reality they are
preparing themselves for this
Holy journey. It’s sad but
now days many Muslims
going for Hajj don’t feel the
need to seek forgiveness
from others nor do they feel
it important to go and greet
family and friends. Do they
forget that one of the
purposes of greeting and
seeking forgiveness is that
when one undertakes this
Holy journey then he desires
to be laid to rest in the Holy
soil of Makkah or Madinah
as they may never return
home.
Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam) has said,
“ There will come a time
when the upper class (rich)
of my Ummah will perform
Hajj merely for show, and
the middle class for trade
(buying goods) and the
scholars from fame and the
poorer class for the sake of
begging.” (HADITH )
The truth of the matter is
such that today before we go
for Hajj we go to others who
have previously went for
Hajj and ask them for the all
details of whom can we
speak to over there, who has
the cheapest Abayas,
Kurthas and Cloaks? Where
should we buy our jewellery
in Makkah or Madinah.?
Where is shopping better in
Makkah or Aziziah? We get
phones numbers, mobile
numbers, addresses,
directions and eventually we
leave for Hajj (which is
supposed to be a spiritual
upliftment journey) with a
big directory in our bags.
Brothers and Sisters in Islam
have we lost the
understanding of the purpose
of Hajj? Is it most important
to bring in a bag full of
clothes after every Salaah? Is
it important to go for
shopping between every
Salaah! Should not our
minds focus on the bigger
picture, which is to attain the
closeness to Almighty Allah
and the Holy Prophet
Muhammad (Sallallahu
Alaihi Wasallam)?
Another very sad custom that
we have adopted is that once
a person returns from Hajj
then we visit them not
because of blessings, but
simply because we expect a
gift. If one is not given to us
then when we return home
we begin to say bad things
about that person, ‘He is so
mean he couldn’t bring us
one tasbeeh, I told you the
person is forever stingy.
Brothers and Sisters in Islam
have we forgotten that the
reason of visiting one who
has returned from Hajj is
because it is a Sunnah and a
means of blessings?

Types of Hajj
There are three types of hajj.
1) IFRAAD: to perform Hajj
only and not join Umrah
with it. the person who
performs this type of Hajj is
called "Mufarid"
2) TAMATTU: to put on
the Ehraam at "Meeqaat"
with the intention of Umrah
alone and after performing
Umrah to take off the
Ehraam, then put on the
Ehraam the second time for
Hajj in Makkah. the person
who performs this type of
Hajj is called "Mutamata`a"
3) QIRAAAN: to put on the
Ehraam at ones homeland
during the time of Hajj and
to perform Hajj and Umrah
in the same state of Ehraam.
the person who performs this
type of Hajj is called
"Qaarin"

HAJ-E-TAMATTU…AT A GLANCE

YOUM-UT-TARWIYAH - 8th Zil Haj - First Day

PERTAINING
TO WOMAN
AND HAJ
Question 1;
Can a woman use pills or
tablets to stop the flow of
blood (menses) at the time of
Umrah or Hajj?
Answer 1;
During the time of Hajj and
Umrah for a woman to take
pills or tablets for stopping
of the menses blood is an act
that is disliked. It is an action
that could be dangerous for
the health. Every action for
Umrah and Hajj is
permissible whilst a woman
is in the state of Haiz
(monthly cycle) expect
Tawaaf of the Holy Kabah
and the 2 rakaats Nafil
prayed after the Tawaaf.
It is narrated in a Hadith
Shareef that on the occasion
of the Farewell Hajj Bibi
Aisha (Radiallahu Anhu)
was in the state of Haiz and
Nabi Muhammad (Sallallahu
Alaihi Wasallam) ordered
her :
“ O Aisha Do everything
you must for Hajj except the
Tawaaf of the Holy
Kaabah.” (Muslim Shareef
Vol 1 Page 385)
Therefore it is the Law of
Shariah that at the time of
Umrah or Hajj any woman in
the state of menses must
perform everything else in
this state except Tawaaf and
its Nafil Prayer. However
when she is clean/ Paak
again then she must make
Tawaaf- e- Ziyaarat and read
its Nafil Salaah.
Yes if a woman knows the
dates of her monthly cycle
and she knows that on the
10th of Zil Hajj she will be
in the state of Haiz (Menses)
and she knows that she will
not perform Tawaaf and if
she waits to become Paak/
Clean (Complete the menses)
it will not be possible, due to
her leaving earlier to return
to her country, then for her
the ruling is that she may use
the pill/ tablet for stopping
the menses blood from
flowing.
Question 2.
Are woman allowed to
change their Ihraam during
the days of Hajj?
Answer 2.
Yes, they are. It does not
mean that when a woman
removes her Ihraam she is
out of Ihraam . No specific
item (eg, The scarf) is
regarded as the Ihraam. She
will only be free from
Ihraam after her hair has
been trimmed.
Question 3.
Is it permissible for a woman
to perform Hajj without a
Mahram?
Answer 3.
One of the conditions of the
compulsion of Hajj is that
any woman whether young
or old should be
accompanied by a Mahram

for the full duration of the
journey. To travel alone on
any sector of the journey is a
grave sin. In the event of a
Mahram not being available,
a bequest for Hajj- e- Badl
should be made.
Question 4.
Can a woman perform Hajj
with her son- in- law?
Answer 4.
The son- in- law is her
Mahram. A woman may
perform Hajj with the
following persons:
A) Husband
B) Brother
C) Paternal and Maternal
Uncle
D) Foster Brother
E) Son- in- law, She may
even go for Hajj with her
son- in- law after the demise
of her daughter.
This is my verdict and the
true knowledge lays by
Almighty Allah.

A saint once mentioned,"
when people become
involved in five things, you
should turn your attention to
another five things.
1) When people become
involved in many sinful
deeds, then you should make
an effort to perfect your own
actions.
2) When people run after
virtues (rewards of deeds),

you should turn your
attention to fulfilling your
faraaidh (compulsory duties
and actions).
3) When people become
involved in external
reformation, then you should
make an effort at internal
reformation.
4) When people become
engrossed in working for this
world, then you should
decorate your Aakhirah
(hereafter).
5) When people seek out the
faults of others, then you
should search for your own
faults.

GOAL LATELY?
The football fever is very
contagious isn’t it? While the
teams are frantically
preparing, themselves I offered above to fit most
would like to ask how
prepared are you?
Okay, I’ve duped you
thinking that I was going to
be writing about football,
Well football and I share one
thing in common that is, the
word GOAL!!!
Many of us are familiar with
the word but, what
significance does it really
hold? How do you go about
making the most of it and,
how would it help you?
Goals, simply explained, are
your dreams and aspiration
in life. Now, we all have
them, but the trouble or, real
effort comes in achieving
them! Don’t you agree?
Let’s starts off by explaining
what the term GOAL means.
Goals can be something very
simple, like learning to make
tea; or as ambitious as
running a Premier league
football team.
It’s anything you have a
desire to achieve or a stage
to get to, It does not
necessarily have to be
something that one can see
or touch; it could also be a
level of consciousness or a
state of mind.
Once you have identified a
goal, the next thing to do
would be to set time frames
within which you could work
in. It is important to keep in
mind that these time frames
should be realistic so that it
does not put you under
undue pressure.
Just as you would take the
exam timetable into account
when working on timeframes
around your exam
preparations; so too, should
you take into consideration
other factors around your
goal. There could be
deadlines to meet or dates
that you would need to
exclude or work around
further, into smaller steps.
This will allow you
breathing space and will be a
source of encouragement to
you. It is very encouraging to
see your goal being reached,
small step at a time. This
would allow you a sense of

control and you may open up
other avenues that you could
pursue.
Don’t be afraid to ask for
assistance from experienced
people. Sometimes, they may
present challenges or
opportunities that you may
have overlooked or needed
help with.
I always maintain that, if you
start adopting these skills
early in life, with simple
things; it will definitely
make your task easier when
you are faced with complex
issues. Believe me, there’s
enough heading your way, as
you grow older.
These steps can be adapted
to fit many situations and
would be able to help you
through completing projects,
preparing for your
examination or sports trails.
You can use the principles
situations. It’s like preparing
for a party or wedding; some
things need to be sorted out
first, before attempting
others. The idea behind this
is for you to THINK
carefully and PREPARE
yourself adequately before
making decision and taking
action. Think BIG but, start
of small. It’s the small steps
that would pay off at the end.
Don’t waste any more
time…. Identify what you
want to do…. How you are
going to get there, and…. go
for it! YOU ARE AS BIG
AS YOU THINK!!!
