Sugar Handling

A Technology That Makes More of Sugar

Sugar handling with Reimelt a fine thing.

Sugar is one of the most important raw materials in the food industry. The Reimelt equipment covers all kinds of processing concepts for this raw material and offers individually tailor-made solutions from storage and conveying via sugar grinding and recrystallization and filling of bulk bags. Optimum configuration of bulk bag discharge stations The Reimelt discharge stations are specifically designed for the type of bulk bags used in your company. The size and the type e.g. with in-liner stretching and rolling device is the decisive criteria. However, the flow characteristics of the sugar, plays an important role in the discharge station configuration. When smaller bags are discharged with limited use of bulk bags, it is recommended to use an inexpensive system: the combined bulk bag and bag dumping station.

Tailor-made sugar silos Reimelt supplies sugar silos made of aluminium, carbon steel and stainless steel. The material, the size and the discharge devices are adapted to your requirements. In addition, sifters can be easily integrated. In accordance with current safety requirements, Reimelt sugar silos are designed to meet ATEX regulations.

For the pneumatic conveying of raw materials Reimelt offers two designs: the economic, dilutephase conveying system, i.e. a pressure or vacuum conveying system, and the dense phase or secondary air conveying system. The characteristics of the two systems are shown in the table below.

Type of conveying

Dilute-phase conveying (pneumatic pressure/ vacuum conveying system) Dense-phase/secondary air conveying

The receiving hoppers for granulated sugar are made of stainless steel. The volume, the discharge devices and the metering elements are adapted to your requirements. For the production of sugar solutions or suspensions, the sugar can be metered through a differential metering system into a cone with a water jet pump, until the preset concentration has been reached.

Sugar grinding with adjustable temperatures For sugar grinding Reimelt has developed a system concept that provides different particle sizes of sugar as required. For special requirements, e.g. for the production of biscuit, the powdered sugar temperature can be adjusted from 15 C by means of a cooling cycle. The corresponding explosion protection concepts conform to ATEX regulations.

Recrystallization of freshly ground sugar Reimelt developed a concept for the production of powdered sugar without the need for additives, e.g. starch, which guarantees a powdered sugar, free of lumps, despite long storage times. Conditioned powdered sugar can be stored in downstream silos without any further problem.
