Community Planning - Collaborative Leadership - People and Place


Are you interested in what makes a community cohesive, dynamic, thriving?
Target audience: Councillors, Council ofcials, Representatives from Statutory Agencies and the Third (Community and Voluntary) sector Academic research demonstrates that thriving local areas require developing and involving leaders across all sectors. This conference addresses dynamic and innovative approaches to place based leadership and on how this concept could be applied in your area. Contributions will be made by eminent academics and practitioners who will provide local and international perspectives on the following themes: Recognition of the reality of effective place based leadership as the key to local development; How such leaders are developed and engaged in developing innovative solutions to complex local issues and excellence in service delivery; The importance of community planning that involves leaders from all sectors and communities; The role of Universities in supporting local civic leaders promote place based leadership.

Key Note Speakers


Professor Robin Hambleton a Professor of City Leadership at the University of the West of England, Bristol and Director of Urban Answers, a company he founded in 2007. He has published a range of articles on new models of partnership working and recommends a new way of conceptualising placebased leadership. His model emphasises the role of civic leadership in shaping emotions and supporting public service innovation. Valdete Idrizi has led the Community Building Mitrovica (CBM), a multi-ethnic NGO that seeks to bridge the divide between different communities living in the Mitrovica region. In 2008 she was the European winner of the International Women of Courage Award by the US State Department. Valdete is an honouree of the Soroptimist Peace Prize 2009, for her work and dedication to the people and peace in Mitrovica. Participants from the Advanced Diploma in Civic Leadership and Community Planning.
