Issue 12/2014

17 April 2014

From the Principals desk - Deon Grobler One of the most important factors that affect a childs performance at school is parental involvement. It is often the misconception of parents that all they have to do is send their child to school and sign their report card each term. This is definitely not the case. Research has shown that children, whose parents share in their formal education, tend to do better in school. Show enthusiasm about school activities and fund raising events as these benefit your child directly and indirectly. Attend school meetings and help in any way possible i.e. Sport meetings, fund raising and or community projects. This all shows your child that you are committed to his or her endeavours and are part of the school community. Communicate with your child about school, which includes talking to him about his friends, teachers, sport and assignments. Remember to use the correct channels of etiquette with regard to teacher/parent meetings make an appointment. Set realistic goals for your child and offer regular praise for genuine effort. Focus on your childs strengths and assist the teacher in helping your child with weak areas. By being a source of motivation, enthusiasm and encouragement, your child will flourish both in the formative years and develop and grow into a responsible adult ready to face lifes challenges. Please bear in mind that with all of the disruptions this term, the teachers will be hard-pressed to complete the syllabus and obtain all the relevant formal assessment marks. Please support them by ensuring all work to be conducted at home by your child is done and sent to school on the date stipulated. I wish you all a most blessed Easter weekend.
