Sericulture, or silk farming, is the rearing of silkworms for the production of raw silk. Silk its comes from Larva of a saturnalia moth; spins a large amount of strong silk in constructing its cocoon.

The units that are located in villages and towns, where population does not exceed 50,000 (as per 1981 census. riginal investment in such units should not exceed Rs. 25 lakhs, as per SSI policy of 1991.
