A Christmas Carol Mandatory Performance Task

You have been hired by Amazon to write a review of Christmas Carol . Your editor has expressed that the review should have the following parts. Final Draft Have you ever had regret in your life? Have you ever wanted a chance to do it over? Well, Ebenezer Scrooge had that chance. There are many themes for A Christmas Carol. I think the two most important are regret and selfchange. As the ghosts take Scrooge to different places, he has a lot of regret for the way he treated people. He had a very bad attitude towards poor people and workers. He had turned people away when they asked for charitable contributions. He treated his workers and family badly. He didnt have any friends or anyone who cared about him. As Scrooge travels around with the ghosts, he begins to see the error of his ways. For example, when the Ghost of Christmas Present takes him to see the Christmas celebration at the Cratchit home, Scrooge becomes concerned about Tiny Tim. The Ghost reminds him of his words about decreasing the surplus population. This makes Scrooge feel very guilty. He feels the same way when he goes to view the party at his nephews. He is able to see how people really feel about him. Scrooge also sees how all of the people in town are full of Christmas spirit. Everyone is happy, the town is decorated, and he begins to see what he has missed by being in the bah humbug spirit. Scrooge was better than his word about changing his ways. He became a good friend to the city and a good friend to the people. Not only did he change his ways he did so much more. He gave to charity and was like an second father to Tiny Tim. I think this detail is important because it shows how Scrooge really changed and

how the change was long lasting. He finally gets in the Christmas spirit and is really nice to other people, especially all of the people who were important in his life.
Some important issues during the Victorian Era were child labor and the Poor Laws. Poor people during this time had it really bad. In order to get help from the government (like our welfare), they had to work in workhouses. The conditions were made really bad so they would not want to work there long and would want to go get another job. Disease was also an issue and there was not good medical care like we have today. Mr. Dickens used his book to bring attention to these issues. Even though A Christmas Carol was written in 1843, it is still very popular today. It has been made into several movies, cartoons, musicals, plays, and childrens books. Each year you will see plays during the holidays. A classic is an old book that remains popular with the passage of time. Me and my family watch this movie at Christmas and it gets us in the holiday spirit.

He became as good a friend, as good a master, and as good a man, as the good old city knew, or any other good old city, town, or borough, in the good old world. I think this detail is important because it shows how Scrooge really changed and how the change was long lasting. He finally gets in the Christmas spirit and is really nice to other people, especially all of the people who were important in his life.
How does the novel reflect the social issues of the Victorian Era?_ Some issues during this era were child labor and the Poor Laws. Poor people during this time had it really bad. In order to get help from the government (like our welfare), they had to work in workhouses. This is especially true around the holidays. The holidays are supposed to mean a time of good cheer and spending time with family, regardless of how much money you have. It is a time to be thankful for what we have. ______________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Why is this novel considered a classic?____Even though the book was written in 1843, it is still very popular today.
