Name: ________________________ Triangles Unit Test

Date: ____________
Comment [S1]: This test addresses these standards: 2.9.6.A: Identify, define, label, and/or describe properties of 1-, 2-, and 3-dimensional shapes and their related parts, and classify and compare 2- and 3- dimensional shapes on the basis of their properties. 2.3.6.B Use appropriate units to measure perimeter, area, and volume; use a protractor to measure angles between 0 and 180 degrees 2.3.6.C: Use given measurements to calculate a missing length, perimeter, area, and/or volume; Calculate elapsed time across am/pm and across days.

Directions: This test consists of matching and problems that involve showing your work. Please complete each section and turn it in when done. Record all of your answers on the test itself and show all of your work where it is necessary. Good Luck! Matching Match each term in Column A with its correct description found in Column B. Place the correct answer on the line provided. Each description in Column B may be used no more than once. Column A ____ 1. Right Triangle Column B A. A triangle with all three sides congruent and all angles measuring 60 degrees B. A shape formed by connecting three ____ 2. Equilateral Triangle line segments C. All angles in the triangle are less than ____ 3. Acute Triangle 90 degrees D. Triangle with one angle measuring 90 ____ 4. Isosceles Triangle degrees E. A triangle with two congruent sides and ____ 5. Obtuse Triangle congruent angles opposite the congruent sides F. A triangle with one angle that is greater ____ 6. Scalene Triangle than 90 degrees G. The point inside of a triangle where the medians intersect H. A triangle with no congruent sides or congruent angles

Comment [S2]: INTASC standard of Assessment. Assessment is a key part to making sure that students are grasping the information that you have taught them over the past couple weeks. Making sure that you provide students with many different types of questions which will allow them to show their knowledge is very important.

Multiple Choice Pick the letter which best answers the following questions. 7. What kind of triangle is shown?

Comment [S3]: I believe you should design tests which have many different types of questions. This one includes Matching, Multiple Choice, and Short Response, providing the students with many chances to show what they know. Comment [S4]: I think this also touches on the INTASC standards of Multiple Instructional Strategies and Diverse Learners

A. Right B. Equilateral C. Isosceles D. Scalene

8. Elijah cuts out a triangle from a piece of cardboard as shown below. Which of the following best describes Elijah's triangle?

A. Acute and Scalene B. Obtuse and Scalene C. Acute and Isosceles D. Obtuse and Isosceles

9. In the triangle below. Angle A is 60 degrees. Angle B is 60 degrees. What is the measurement of Angle C?

A. 45 degrees B. 90 degrees C. 60 degrees D. 180 degrees

10. What type of triangle is shown in #9? A. Right Triangle B. Equilateral Triangle C. Isosceles Triangle D. Scalene Triangle

Short Response Find the missing length for each triangle below. Be sure to show all of your work. Round answers to the nearest tenth if necessary. 11. 2m 5m

Comment [S5]: Providing the students with multiple ways to express that they know how to solve problems is important which is why I incorporate multiple sections for them to demonstrate this ability.

12. 5m

x 7m

13. a = 9 ; b = 12 ; c = ?

14. a = 8 ; b = 10 ; c = ?

15. A ladder is leaning against the side of a 10m house. If the base of the ladder is 3m away from the house, how tall is the ladder? Please draw a diagram and show all work.
