ABSTRACT

A tachometer is an instrument measuring the rotation speed of a shaft or disc, as in a motor or other machine. The device usually displays the revolution per minute of any object like a rotating wheel or a disc or a shaft. This application is build using a Hall Effect sensor, comparator unit, micro controller and wireless data transmission system. This instrument has 3 important sections:1. Hall Effect mechanism designed to pick the revolution of the object. 2. The processing stage designed using a microcontroller and associated with wireless module. 3. Receiving section consists of wireless data receiver and display device such as computer.

First is the is the sensor unit which is installed in the engine near one of the several rotating parts like shaft, and also it consists of sensor, comparator, microcontroller unit, wireless transmitter, Hall effect sensor and comparator combined mechanism senses the speed and micro controlled processing unit calculates the rotation speed of a shaft or a disk, as in a motor other machine. It wirelessly transmits to the monitoring part. In the monitoring part it receives the data wirelessly from the transmitter and displays it in the computer with the help of an interface IC.

OBJECTIVES

1. To prove that this wireless or contactless tachometer is more efficient than the normal tachometer. 2. To produce a reliable wireless tachometer using micro controller.

INTRODUCTION
Wireless tachometer can be used to measure the revolution per minute of any object like a rotating wheel or a disc or a shaft. This application is build using IR sensor, comparator unit, micro-controller and wireless data transmission system. First is the sensor unit which is installed in the engine near one of the several rotating parts, consist of Hall Effect sensor and comparator. Their combined mechanism senses the speed and microcontroller based processing unit calculates the rotation speed of a shaft or a disc, as in a motor or other mechanism. It wirelessly transmits to the monitoring part. The wireless receiver receives the signal and displayed in the PC for further

WORKING

The main components or building blocks of contactless tachometer are; hall effect sensor, comparator, microcontroller, zigbee module, interface IC and monitoring screen. The sensor senses the no of rotations of the shaft of the motor according to the principle of Hall Effect. Then sensor output is given to the comparator. The comparator compares the two inputs given to it and produces a pulsed output. The two inputs of the comparator are, first is the output from the sensor and the second one is the reference voltage. And the output of the comparator is given to the microcontroller. In this circuit we uses PIC 16F877A as the microcontroller. The microcontroller captures the data from the comparator and process the data. The corresponding commands are transmit from microcontroller to the zigbee receiver wirelessly. Next is the monitoring section it starts from the zigbee receiver module. It starts from the zigbee receiver module. Basically zigbee module consists of a transmitter and receiver. Both should be paired in such a way that the destination address and home address of both parts should be matched. This RF receiver is used to receive the data from the sensing section with the help of an antenna which is attached to it. This received data is then sending to the PC with the help of an interface IC. This interface IC is a UART to USB converter; it couples the zigbee and the PC. Then the received data will be displayed in the monitor

CONCLUSION
The current device (wireless tachometer) is an embedded application which is used to calculate the speed of the motor without the need of conventional tachometer. In this application Hall effect is used to calculate the speed of the motor. And this device avoids the error which usually occurs when using the ordinary tachometer in the rotor grew by the humans; i.e. the observational errors may cause for the different positions of the conventional tachometer, and this risk can be avoided by using this contactless tachometer.

ADVANTAGES

It gives better performance and reliability. Light in weight. Compact in size. Easy to handle. High accuracy. Not harmful to humans.

APPLICATIONS

1. Paper mills 2. Chemical plants 3. Automotive plants
