WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TO?
Our unit of inquiry is entitled “Environments”. It is going well. In this unit we will understand the impact humans have on
the environment, the ways in which living things can be sorted into groups, the changes biological populations experience over time and
the interdependence in a biological system. The central idea for this unit is “All living things depend on the conditions in their
environment.” We are creating habitats in our classroom. Students are researching a fresh water aquatic habitat, a worm habitat, and a
terrarium for frog’s habitat. We are going to be experts and work with the kindergarten and first graders telling them about these three
habitats.
In spelling we are working with long I and endings “ed” and “ing”. A great website for practice and games with our spelling
words is www.spellingcity.com.
Spanish with Senorita Leon does include a small amount of homework. Ask your student if they have homework with Senorita
Leon and go over it with them.
Also be on the lookout for important forms coming home regarding our overnight Camp trip in November, fill out the forms and
send them back to school ASAP. Camp is right around the corner, November 12th and 13th. Please send in your fees for camp by
November 1st. We have chaperones from our room going to camp; Scott Walker, Betsy Dickema, and Brian Trigg. We could use a few
more Dads to go with us. We pay for your room and board. If interested, call ASAP. We will send you the information and forms to go.

Sandy KH’s November Conferences for our classroom are Monday, November 16 through Thursday,
November 19 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:40 p.m. A confirmation is attached to this PEEK. Please confirm the
conference time. Note: Sandy KH’s conferences dates are different from the rest of the school due to a

This week we worked with combinations, comparisons, factors, multi-step Room 113
problems, and properties of multiplication in math. Our unit test will be next (651) 407-7600 x1608
week after a short review. We will begin our next unit in math entitled skkriz@wbl.whitebear.k12.mn.us
“Perimeter and Area”. We will first focus on metric area and the perimeter and
area of rectangles. Students are in need of calculators. They may want to
purchase a calculator that they will use in middle school called a TI-15. A form is IB Planner – Environments
enclosed with this weeks mail.
