Abby Straszheim 2-19-14 Second grade is the grade that I hope to teach.

I would prefer anywhere from 1st through 4th grade. However I did provide song options for grades up to 5th grade. GRADES 2-3 Down by the Bay page 300 in TMC I chose this song for a couple of reasons. This song is fairly simply in terms of range, allowing a broad range of students to participate. This song is also fun at the verses for students to act out and be silly with. Kum Ba Yah page 335 in TMC (African American Song) This song also is accessible for younger students seeing as the range is lower. This piece is very repetitive so students can grasp it quickly. The ASL signs with this song also are very engaging. Hello, There! page 320 in TMC This song is a great song for the younger students. It has a chance for the teacher to model and the students to copy back. Twinkle Twinkle Little Star page 391 in TMC(French Folk Melody- Jane Taylor) This is a classic folk song that many students are familiar with. This will give the teacher a chance to take out the words and sing on bum. Students should be able to feel the melody going up and down. When the saints go marching in page 399 in TMC (African American Spiritual) Similar to the reason why I chose Twinkle, Twinkle this song also has a familiar melody that can easily be sung on bum. That draws more attention to its musical content. Teddy Bear on page 427 in TMC This chant is fun and repetitive. It would be fun to replace teddy bear with a students name to engage the students more in the chant. Tumbling Jack on page 428 in TMC This is another chant that I chose for its very visual aspects. Students of all ages should be able to perhaps act out this chant or feel the rhythm of the chant. Class Chant (Chattanooga Public School) * This is a cute song to incorporate into any classroom to get a good beat going. The students can keep the macro beat as the chant this classroom anthem. Popcorn by James Horner * This is a fun chant for younger students. The popcorn visual helps students to feel the tempo and pop of the chant. GRADES 4-5 Frere Jacques! page 310 in TMC I chose this song because of its simple melody with an easy range for all students. This is a great song to incorporate another language, French. Rig-a-jig-jig page 365 in TMC (English folk song) This song has a little bigger range requiring it to be older students. However, I enjoy this song because it is easy to spot the macro and micro beats as the song exemplifies both. Take me out to the ball game page 381 in TMC

I chose this song to add a variety of tempos. This song is in triple meter. Older students should be familiar with this tune and able to produce the trickier range of vocals. This song is also easy to see the musical ups and downs while singing bum. The Grand Ole Duke of York * This song is aimed for the older students definitely. The range is higher requiring concentration from students whose voices have developed more. This song is a fun tune that has a simple melody to catch on to. This land was you land by Woody Guthrie * This song is fun in a common duple meter. The style of song is very fluid and fairly repetitive but considering a couple different measures I put this in the category for older students. Ive been working on the railroad arranged by Michael G. Sinshack * This is one of my favorite songs from elementary school. As the song changes in tempo and rhythm however, I chose to include it in the older grades.
