Sarah Childress is a senior athletic training major at Emory & Henry. CH: Often we hear athletic training majors talk about time management, but it's hard to exactly appreciate it without actually being an athletic training major. What are the specific time requirements of the athletic training major? SC: An athletic training student needs to work 200 hours a semester. We're assigned to a sport each season and a certified athletic trainer schedules when we work. We are in the athletic training room about an hour before a practice and two hours before a game. We also have to stay until all athletes have been treated and left after a game or practice. During football I typically worked in the athletic training room from 2:30 until 7:30 or 8. We also have hours we work during the day in the athletic training room, and for clinical classes we have observation hours to obtain in a physical therapy clinic, emergency room, and the health center on campus. These hours have to be scheduled during breaks in between classes and practices, so an athletic training student really has to balance {his/her} time wisely, because more than likely they are not able to begin studyway.

CH: What was it that attracted you to E&H? SC: A large majority of my family has attended E&H, including my parents and sister, so it's always been home away from home for me. My younger brother, Allen, goes here too now, so it's been like a tradition to come here. CH: What is your favorite vacation spot? SC: Topsail Island, NC and Hawaii CH: What is your favorite food? SC: Spinach Salad, Chicken, and my mom's homemade Sourdough Bread. CH: What is your favorite movie? SC: I have a lot, but Forrest Gump, Superbad, 8 Seconds and The Little Mermaid are a few. CH: What is your favorite tv show? SC: Jon and Kate Plus 8. Every issue of The Whitetopper for the remainder of the year will include a profile of an E&H senior athlete.

Is there a favorite sport you like to be an athletic trainer for? SC: I really like to watch college football, and, coincidentally, it has been my favorite sport to be an athletic trainer for while at Emory. I also like being an athletic trainer for baseball and softball, when it gets warm in the springtime. CH: What do you plan to do after you graduate? SC: I am hoping to attend graduate school and gain a master's in a

study related to athletic training and sports medicine while being an athletic training graduate assistant. CH: What is your favorite childhood memory? SC: I have too many to count! Growing up I always had great summers, playing sports, swimming in my pool, going to Topsail Island, and Claytor Lake with my huge family and a lot of our friends CH: What is your favorite memory here at E&H? SC: In my four years at Emory, it's impossible to pick one memory that is my favorite, but I've enjoyed all the friendships that I've made and the fun I've had, and what I've learned along the

After a slow start to their 2008-09 season, the women's basketball team finally seems to be finding its form, winning two consecutive games, and four conference games since the beginning of the New Year. On January 30, the Wasps disposed of Lynchburg 66-56, and took out Randolph the following day 72-52. In the game against Lynchburg, Sarah Petty led the way with 23 points, pacing three Wasps scorers in double figures (Lyons 16 and Snyder 10). Against Randolph, Baylie Snyder notched a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Petty was close to a triple-double with 9 points, 9 assists and 8 rebounds. Tuesdee Woods also scored 10 points for the Wasps on 5 of 8 shooting, and Samantha Horner scored 14 on 5 of 8 from the floor and 2 of 4 from behind the ark. This came just weeks after upsetting the conference's num-

ber one team in Virginia Wesleyan on their home court. These wins have helped the Wasps to work their way back into conference tournament contention. The team currently sits at 5-12 (4-9) with seven games remaining. Those seven games will determine whether or not the Wasps will continue to play or if they will have to wait again until next year.

Memorial Service for Casto Ramsey Held on Campus

Casto Ramsey, former head football coach at E&H, died in December at the age of 88. His family wishes to remember Coach Ramsey at a service on campus on Feb. 7. They feel the best way to bring him home to Emory & Henry is for friends and former players to gather and share their memories and stories. Please join them in the Van Dyke Center, beginning at 1 p.m. on Feb. 7 for this opportunity to remember this exceptional coach and mentor.

The Emory & Henry men's basketball team broke out of a string of long losses with a 89-74 win over Lynchburg on the road on Jan. 24. Robert Hudson paced five Wasps in double figures with 23 points on 4 of 11 shooting, 4 of 10 from deep, and 11 of 12 at the charity stripe. Terrance Grigg scored 15 points and tallied 6 rebounds, Camillo Weinz scored 12 points on 3 of 9 from behind the arc in only 14 minutes, and Kyle Huckins and Josh Lee scored 11 and 10 points respectively. After losing by a five point margin to Bridgewater on the road (91-86), the Wasps returned

home to play Virginia Wesleyan. The Wasps beat Virginia Wesleyan, who are usually conference and national championship contenders, 88-85. Against the Marlins the Wasps placed five scorers in double digits once again. Josh Brown led the Wasps with 16 points and 8 rebounds, while Grigg recorded 14, Huckins scored 13, while J.D. Dyson and Hudson each recorded 12. Dyson also added 5 assists. The Wasps have five games remaining before the beginning of the conference tournament. Currently the team is 9-11 (3-8). However, it will be a tough road as four of the remaining teams (Washington & Lee, HampdenSydney, Guilford and Roanoke) that the Wasps play won their first meeting this season.

Heading into this Super Bowl, the Arizona Cardinals were not a trendy pick. Of course there were many who just wanted to see an upset, but not many people actually gave the Cardinals a chance. Granted, the Cardinals lost Super Bowl XLIII, but they almost gave the Steelers more than they had bargained for, and gave the viewers one of the best Super Bowls in the history of the game. From James Harrisons record-setting 100-yard interception return, to the fourth quarter duel between Santonio Holmes and Larry Fitzgerald, this Super Bowl had it all. Is was as much high octane as any Super Bowl in recent memory, with both teams going to the air early and often. My prediction about Willie Parker being the MVP of the game fell by the wayside, as both teams found holes early and often in the opposing teams secondaries. However, just because of this, dont think that the defenses didnt come out to play. In this case the stats might lie, because both teams played pretty well defen-

sively considering the stage they were on. Also, the claim that the referees won this game for the Steelers is simply ludicrous. The fact of the matter is, although the Steelers got the benefit of the doubt on a Karlos Dansby roughing the passer call, an Adrian Wilson running into the holder call and that the officials didnt review the Cardinals last play from scrimmage (which still is puzzeling to me), those calls did not determine the game. All of them could have gone either way. As for the last call, they should have reviewed it, but come on, even IF it was overturned what are the chances of an Arizona victory. The most satisfying part of the game for me was when Santonio Holmes was named the MVP of the game. Anything else would have been unacceptable. All in all, this game was magnificent. For the second year in a row the Super Bowl did not only live up to its hype, but exceeded it. Congrats to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
