COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AND HUMAN SCIENCES

Department of Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education

Thursday, February 13, 2014 Subject: Recommendation I am pleased to recommend Camille Akers as a prospective teacher. Camille has been my student in Elementary Reading Methods, Language Arts Methods, and the student teaching seminar. Camille has produced quality work on all of her assignments provided a valuable contribution to classroom discourse. I have had numerous opportunities to observe her delivering professional presentations in class and have carefully read her reflections and watched her grow through reflexive practice. Camille was at the top of her class in both method courses but she was more than that, in my 14-year career in teacher education I have seen very few students as capable as Camille and I place her in the top 5% of my students. Camille combines a positive and focused disposition, eagerness for new experiences with a professional approach to teaching. Her best attribute is her willingness to try new things regardless of the time and effort it may take. It was most obvious in her planning and execution of lessons in practicum and student teaching. Her intense approach combined with understanding of literacy development makes her to a dedicated teacher. Her increased classroom experiences show that she will posses the qualities ensuring that her students will do well becoming readers, writers and thinkers. Camilles experiences abroad have taught her about cultural differences and the experience of being an outsider. This invaluable insight will help her understand all of her students and make her able to carefully attend to their needs. She is well organized, managing her time and resources while working hard to make sure she is prepared. Her class work shows that she applies thought to her work with students she carefully assesses strengths and weaknesses then applies her knowledge. Camille forms her own perspective on the issue at hand and applies critical thought and original insight to find her way. I think Camille will be a great asset to any school she joins as a teacher and will quickly become a teacher who can be relied upon to do what is in the best interest of her students. I hope that in due time she will come back to get her masters degree with us. Respectfully,
