Furthermore the student should be able to evaluate scientific reports and base his or her actions on evidencebased medicine Judgement and approach The student need to be informed about ethical issues regarding care of surgical patients

Course content
The course is based on the following clinical situations: shock imbalance of electrolytes and fluids terminal care palpable tumors abdominal pain hematemesis nausea and vomiting bloody stools swollen abdomen pain on defecation anorexia weight loss altered defecation deranged liver function tests burn and cold injuries pigmented skin lesions trauma dysphagia

Teaching and examination

The course is based on problem-based learning, seminars and overview lectures. The students are assigned to different clinical sections. They will participate under guidance in OR, ER, endoscopy and out-patient clinic. The students are instructed to establish and complete a portfolio, that is part of the examination. Prerequisites
Studies corresponding to 3.5 years of the Swedish University, Medical Programme including courses in Internal medicine. Good knowledge of English.
