rollout of ipad minis for use In the class-
rooms for the 2014-2015 school year!
LOST & FOUND
As the year draws to a close, please take a mi-
nute to look through the Lost & Found in the
Cafetorium.
We also have an assortment of
cellphones and other small items in
the front office. All items not
claimed by Friday, May 23 will be
donated to charity.
Box Tops Update
Congratulations to the Stanesa Family for win-
ning the Boxtops contest!
A special thank you to the eighth graders that
helped sort, trim and count box tops in Febru-
ary. We were able to submit over $180 by
March 1 and have another $200 plus ready to
be mailed. Way to go!

As we near the end of the 2013-14 school year, I would like to thank you for encourag-
ing your student/s to show up with their bus pass each and every day this past school
year. Doing so has provided our students with a greater level of safety and security.
As explained during initial roll out and distribution, students only receive one free bus
pass. Therefore, your students bus passes must be safely stored over the summer
months until the start of the new school year to avoid the cost of a replacement.
Should your student require a replacement pass, please contact the Bus Pass Coordi-
nator by sending an email to buspass@svvsd.org or calling 303-702-7540. The re-
placement cost for lost, stolen and/or mutilated bus passes is $5.00 and shows up as
fee under your students name in Infinite Campus.

Sincerely,

Randy McKie
Director of Transportation

SAVE OUR POLLINATORS
THE BEES NEEDS STUDY

Did you know that Colorado has more than 900 species of native bees and
over 550 right here in the Front Range? Yes, we do need our Colorado
bees, they assist in pollinating our plants. Without them our plants would
be unable to produce fruits and vegetables. The Bees Needs is a study di-
rected by the CU Museum of Natural History to learn more about how our
communities can support bees.

Ms. Gillis's 7
th
Grade Science classes will be installing two bee houses on
the school storage building on the north end of the football field. One of
the bee houses has a cut-away side panel where you can observe the wood-
nesting, solitary, native bees. Did you know that bees build nests in tun-
nels to protect their young? Dont worry, the bees are gentle and wont
sting. Learn more at http://beesneeds.colorado.edu.

NEEDED Volunteers to observe the bee houses every other week from June
through September. Volunteers will make observations of the activity/nesting in
the bee houses, collect data, take photographs, and go to the Bees Needs web-
site to log the data. This would be a great family activity! You also may be able
to get a bee house for your home. Check out the participation section on the
website for more information.

If you are interested in volunteering to collect data from the EMS bee hous-
es or have any questions, contact Beth Gillig at gillig_beth@svvsd.org .
Please give the dates you would be available to make observations if you
are interesting in volunteering.

Thank you for supporting our Colorado pollinators!
