Dear Hiring Manager:

While searching the Careers portion of your website, I found the position of Research Technician
in the Genetics division. The Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) provides a safe and
healthy environment for all. My skills and experience from THON and my academic training can
help achieve this goal and prepared me for a job with CHOP. I can provide a lot to your
organization by helping to provide safe and efficient care to patients.

An employee at CHOP should have good communication and organizational skills. My volunteer
experience in the Penn State Dance Marathon (THON) has provided me with these skills. As a
volunteer, I was a Captain of the Rules & Regulations and OPPerations Committees. Being a
leader in these Committees allowed me to lead teams of 30 or more members in helping the
organization run smoothly each year. I planned and executed multiple fundraisers, weekly
Committee meetings, and multiple events throughout the year. I was a liaison to different
Committees within THON and was able to delegate multiple tasks within my Committees. This
experience has also built up my communication skills to interact with those outside of the
organization, which will assist in asking for donations or ordering supplies. My experience
within THON has helped me gain necessary experience and shows my ability to dedicate my
time that would make me a useful member of the Research Technician team.

I also have the necessary experience for the position from my educational experiences. I am
Senior at Penn State pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology. My degree and relevant
coursework has readily prepared me with the skills needed for the Research Technician position.
I have taken multiple classes with a laboratory component. Through these labs I was able to learn
the necessary techniques related to this position. In my Mammalian Physiology lab I learned
sterile lab techniques during surgery and other experiments. I have excelled academically by
achieving Deans List and earning a 3.35 GPA. What I have learned from my courses at Penn
State has readily prepared me to work in the CHOP laboratory.

With my volunteer and academic experience and interest in pursuing a career in the field, I feel I
am a good fit for CHOP. I want to continue to give back to patients in need while providing
outstanding care and a positive environment. I have enclosed my resume with credentials, I
would greatly appreciate the opportunity to further discuss the position, please contact me at
(302) 893 9186 or nbwassam@gmail.com. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Regards,

Nick Wassam
