When ASSASSINS was an-
nounced there were two groups of
people, first the old people who got
excited and started rerouting their
daily routine to find the maximum
amount of hiding. The second group
were the young ones, the ones who
had the dazed and confused looks on
their face when this was announced.
As a past winner of ASSASSINS,
I feel it is my obligation to inform
the young readers of ASSASSINS
and the stories of past years so here
you go!
First off, what is it? ASSASSINS
is a high tech game of cat and
mouse. You will get a “mark” who
you will need to find and
“assassinate”. To “assassinate” them
ASSASSINS!!
you need to go up to the person and
say “you are assassinated”. You can
not in any way physically hurt your
mark.
Now how do you get involved in
this amazing game? You need to
log on to speedcouncil.org/assassins.
You must register on speedcoun-
cil.org to play. Don’t worry council
will not sell your name and email to
those telemarketers, its just a way to
keep track of who is playing. Then
on October 27 at midnight you will
need to log back on to speedcoun-
cil.org to get the name of your mark.
Once you get your mark you will
to find your mark and “assassinate”
them. To get a complete list of the rules
log on to speedcouncil.org/assassins.
This year council has added some-
thing to help you with your password.
On October 26 you will be able to stop
by the council office to get your Assas-
sins card. You will be able to put your
password, or “secret”, so you can give it
to your killer.
I must forewarn you newbie's, students
do get a little crazy. In past years stu-
dents have jumped over fountains, gone
in showers, and even backstabbed friends
in order to get their marks. No place is
safe.
Assassins is a Speed School tradition
that brings the students together in order
to see who has the sneakiest ways.
Sadly there is no real prize, just bragging
rights, which can be kept forever.
Don’t forget to sign up and have fun!

America’s Internet Addiction

The Stanford University School of Medicine claims that
one out of every eight Americans “exhibit[s] at least one possi-
ble sign of problematic internet use,” according to data col-
lected from a telephone survey. “We often focus on how won-
derful the Internet is—how simple and efficient it can make
things,” explains author Elias Aboujaoude, MD. “But we need
to consider the fact that it creates real problems for a subset of
people.”
Through the survey of 2,513 adults, 68.9 percent were regu-
lar Internet users:
•13.7 percent (more than one out of eight respondents) found
it hard to stay away from the Internet for several days at a time
•12.4 percent stayed online longer than intended very often or
often
•12.3 percent had seen a need to cut back on Internet use at
some point
•8.7 percent attempted to conceal non-essential Internet use
from family, friends and employers
•8.2 percent used the Internet as a way to escape problems or
relieve negative mood
5.9 percent felt their relationships suffered as a result of exces-
sive Internet use
The typical affected individual is a single, college-
educated, white male in his 30s, who spends approximately 30
hours a week on ‘non-essential computer use’.
Aboujaoude stresses that, “It’s premature to say whether
people in the sample actually have a clinical disorder. We’re
not saying this is a diagnosis—we still need to learn a lot
more. [This] study was a necessary first step toward possibly
identifying something clinically significant.”
Although a comparison to the time spend we spend on tele-
vision, reading the newspaper, playing videogames, or any-
thing else we do in our daily lives that isn’t “essential” was not
made, it’s hard to interpret what exactly is essential and what
exactly it means to be addicted to something. As far as I
know, nothing besides eating, sleeping, and breathing is abso-
lutely essential.
I guess it’s time to see the doctor. Hopefully he’ll
say that internet addiction is better than alcohol or drug
addiction. World of Warcraft is way worse though. For
sure.

Assassins is right around to corner and I can not
wait! I hope you are just as excited as I am about it.

tioned this because I have just been hassled about

Weekend Getaways
Looking for something to do this weekend, maybe
something out of the ordinary? I recently traveled
down south to Clermont and visited the American
Outpost at the Jim Beam distillery. Not only can you
find a wide variety of gifts in the gift shop, but a his-
tory on bourbon and the Beam family. For those over
21 there is a free sampling of two bourbons in the
Beam house. Take a step back in time to see the dis-
tilling process and get your grandmother that gift
she’s always been wanting: a variety pack of Jim
Beam bourbon and a Jim Beam lighter. The Ameri-
can Outpost is a short drive south of Louisville on I-
65 at Exit 112. Those of us under 21 can go on the
tour and meander through the gift shop, but no free

HALLOWEEN PUNCH
INGREDIENTS
1 bottle (32 oz.) apple juice, chilled
1 can (12 oz.) frozen cranberry juice concen-
trate
1 cup of orange juice (no pulp)
1 and ½ liters of your favorite brand of gin-
ger-ale
1 apple (red or green)
DIRECTIONS
In a large punch bowl, mix apple, cranberry
and orange juices together
Slowly add in the ginger-ale and continue to
stir
Slice apple in to wedges and place into bowl
for additional flavor and for a fancier appear-
ance.
*Optional* - take a cup of the punch and pour
into ice cube tray…allow to freeze and add ice
cubes to punch

Update on Bridges Project... October 2006
Just a few years have passed since the redesigning of I-
65 in southern Indiana project ended, and already more
construction is in site. Most of the attention in the Ohio
River Bridges Project has been placed on the downtown
(Kennedy Interchange) and East End areas. One ques-
tion to ask is “where will I-65 Northbound traffic go once
it crosses the river?” A meeting was held in Jefferson- October 25th – November 2nd
