Small Group Charades:

One person will scan the QR Code, be secretive and do not let anyone
else see what pops up!
Act out the behavior you see on your electronic device: no words, noises
or writing only body movements!
When your friends guess what behavior you are showing, color in the
box next to the code using a blue for good behavior or red for bad
behavior! Make sure you all have the same answer and color before you
move on!

Directions for Educator:
1. Have students get in small groups, possibly by their table groups or depending on
how many devices you have to work with.
2. Hand them the above sheet of paper with the QR codes printed.
3. Read through the directions and demonstrate how they are to play the charades
game.
4. The students will take turns using the electronic device for scanning. One student
will load the code, which will then take them to a photo of either a good behavior or
a bad behavior. The student will reenact this behavior and his or her group
members will guess which behavior the student is displaying.
5. Once the group has guessed the behavior, the students will classify this behavior as
either good behavior or bad behavior. If it is good, they will fill in the small box
next to the appropriate QR code with blue, if it is bad they will use red. (These colors
can be customized depending on the resources available).
a. Answers:
Code 1: The student is yelling at a friend or another student instead of
speaking kindly and expressing his or her feelings Bad.
Code 2: The student is raising his or her hand instead of blurting out the
answer Good.
Code 3: The students are helping each other out and cooperating Good.
Code 4: The kids are having fun Good!
Code 5: The kids are throwing paper, standing on chairs and desks, and
causing chaos bad.
6. When the groups have finished, pull up a PowerPoint with the various images on
slides. Work through the photos, classifying and revealing either blue or red.
a. Note: This ending step could easily be adapted to a IWB lesson where the
covers can be removed and consequently revealing the correct color.
Reflection:
How does this code quest support your lesson?
o This quest allows the students to build on their previous IWB lesson that
utilized classification of classroom behaviors. They had ordered pre-decided
behaviors so in this activity they will be identified the behavior based on only
a picture or an action by their group member. They increase their knowledge
on appropriation and inappropriate classroom behaviors.
How will you use this code quest in the classroom? (i.e. Will you post QR codes
around the room? Will you provide a handout with the QR codes as possibly a
worksheet to be completed?)
o The codes will be printed and handed out on a piece of paper so that they
may play the game of charades.
Which QR code creator did you use? Provide a very brief evaluation of the QR code
creator.
o I used Kaywa QR code generator and it proved to be easy and quick to
generate my codes! I appreciate that I did not have to create an account and I
could just quickly open it up and create a code.

Which QR code reader to plan to use? Provide a very brief evaluation of the QR code
reader.
o Im planning on using NeoReader, granted another scanner is not already
loaded on the devices. This scanner did not have any pop-ups prompting the
children with questions such as whether or not they want to open the image
linked to the code (as I had experienced with Red Laser). This allows for the
children to use the scanner with the least amount of confusion possible!
