How do I get to and find my way around UCL?
If you are coming from abroad or have not yet visited the Main UCL Campus, the address
you need to head to is Gower Street, Bloomsbury, London, WC1E 6BT.
Detailed instructions of how to get to UCL by public transport can be found on the UCL map
web pages. The nearest mainline train station is Euston, and the nearest underground
stations are Goodge Street and Euston Square.
We would recommend using the Transport for London Journey Planner below when making
your travel arrangements.
Finding the Department of Mechanical Engineering
5
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is located on the fourth floor of the Roberts
Building. You can access the Roberts Building via the Engineering Front Building entrance
on Torrington Place opposite Waterstones book shop on Torrington Place. On entering go
through the turnstiles, turn right and take the lift to the fourth floor.
Finding your way to a specific room
Rooms at UCL are usually represented by a room code with the exception of some lecture
theatres and rooms that are also named after people. The room code consists of the
building name, a floor number then the room number.
(E.g. Roberts 421 = Fourth Floor of the Roberts Building, room 421)
Useful Tips on finding us
UCL also has a routefinder system which is very useful for finding your way to a particular
place, or if you have an iPhone or iPod Touch you can download the UCL iMap app
(developed by a UCL student), to help you navigate your way around campus.

Where do I find my timetable?
Teaching will start on Monday 30
th
September 2013
Please note that the timetable is subject to change until the beginning of the first
week of termso please check back regularly!
The UCL Online Timetable at www.ucl.ac.uk/timetable lets you see your personal
timetable week by week and can be used to find out when things are being taught across
UCL. Use it to select course units which will fit in your timetable. Your personal timetable will
display all the course units you are registered to attend including lectures, seminars, tutorials
and labs. Check it regularly for changes to dates, times or locations.
At the top right you can see the academic year, make sure this is 2013-14.
Login with your standard UCL username and password to display your personal timetable, or
select a department or subject area, a degree programme, or individual modules and create
a custom timetable, to find out when things are scheduled to be taught.
Your personal timetable displays the modules you are registered to attend in Portico.
Students are automatically registered for compulsory modules so they immediately appear in
your timetable. Use the Department, Degree Programme or Custom timetables to find
options that fit in your timetable. Once you select your options in Portico, they will appear in
your timetable the next day. If a module selection is rejected or deleted in Portico, it will be
removed from your timetable the following day.
You can view any UCL module by clicking Custom. In this view you will need to click on
switch Module Info and then enter the module code. Click on the module code>create
timetable>current display will show the whole year.
7
Please remember that there may be unavoidable changes during the course of the year so
you should check your personal timetable the start of each week. If it is a very late change
you will be told via email.
The Online Timetable will also offer a calendar subscription service, allowing you to get a
feed of your personal timetable directly to your live@UCL account, or to your smartphone or
personal calendaring service (e.g. Google Calendar, Apple iCal).
https://cmis.adcom.ucl.ac.uk:4443/timetabling/subscribe.do
When reading the timetable, it is important to note that UCL uses a specific week numbering
system, so when reading your online timetable you should check carefully which weeks each
course is running. A full listing of dates according to the UCL week systems is available
from http://www.ucl.ac.uk/estates/roombooking/calendar/1314.pdf
What if I miss an induction event?
If you are unable to attend any of the induction events please let Charlotte Reisch the
Teaching and Learning Administrator (Postgraduate Taught & Short Courses) know so that
she can update you on important information that may have been missed.
