SENATOR CAROL BROWN

SHADOW PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY

FOR FAMILIES AND PAYMENTS
SENATOR FOR TASMANIA

MEDIA RELEASE
NIKOLIC CAUGHT OUT ON PENSION AGE

Tasmanian Labor Senator Carol Brown says Liberal MHR for Bass Andrew Nikolic has
been left red faced over Treasurer Joe Hockeys plan to lift the age pension age to
70.
Senator Brown said Mr Hockey announced on Sydney radio last Friday that
Australians born after 1965 will have to work until they are 70 before they become
eligible for an age pension.
Today Mr Nikolic is reported in the Examiner newspaper as saying there has been
no announcements in relation to the pension age.
Either Mr Nikolic is not listening to what his Treasurer has to say or he is being
dishonest with Tasmanians.
He owes it to Tasmanian pensioners and workers to explain what is really
happening.
For Mr Nikolic to say there have been no announcements in relation to the pension
age is simply not true.
