In 2013, Friends of the Red Cedar River hosted more than 15 special events,
including a day-long river clean-up project that drew more than 150 participants
and resulted in more than two tons of trash being removed from the river. The
trash was taken by Harder Ltd., one of our supporters and the clean-up events
sponsor. Bill Harder, President and CEO of Harder Ltd., said that the company
recycled as much material as they could before sending the rest to their primary
landfill. Harders daughter, Angelique, a sophomore at Michigan State University,
participated in the event and said that the Red Cedar River is an MSU and an East
Lansing icon, and it needs to be preserved.

Other events included a Wines of the Red Cedar River, which featured a tasting of
local wines on the banks of the river during June. East Lansing major Karl Kaplan
attended the event, and joined more than 100 others in sampling the fares of local
wineries while enjoying the beautiful river on a glorious early summer evening.
