One Word Questionnaire/Audience Feedback Graphs
We wanted an equal number of males and females in our feedback as our genre is
not catered towards a particular gender as some types of music are. This way we can
keep gauge how successful our products were in enticing our audience, whether
they were male or female.
Our sample was taken from a variety of ages as we believe that our genre has a wide
target audience, and the best way to see if this was the case was to see the different
reactions from differing age groups. However, we took the majority of our sample
from people similar to our age group, ages 16-21 as this is the age that we believe
makes up the majority of our target audience; despite this as we have put across,
people older or younger, from ages 14-40 may enjoy this genre so they too needed
surveying.

We believed that this question was vital to our questionnaire as we wanted to see if
we, and the band, had encapsulated the genre of pop rock. Through our products
and the reaction gained, we could see if we had conveyed our genre successfully. In
our opinion, we believed that Bastille were the most similar to our band. However,
we are happy with the end result as Blur and Maroon 5 were also captured as similar
to our band-these artists encapsulate our genre of Pop Rock and Britpop and
therefore we can surmise that our representation of the genre was successful.
McFly, Oasis and Coldplay were also suggestions that we felt to an extent were
similar to Obsession: McFly perhaps more on the pop side while Oasis and Coldplay
also Britpop but also more on the rock side of the genre.

'Obsession'?

This clearly shows that our music video was a successful product as everyone we
surveyed felt that our music video captured the essence of pop rock.

At the beginning of the process, we wanted to convey to our audience an anti-drug
message, considering drugs are glorified by the industry. This message was shown
through the narrative and therefore by having a wholly positive response to this
question this shows that we achieved our aim, whilst achieving the conventions of
our genre and making an entertaining product.

Similarly to our main product, we felt that we have captured our genre successfully
through all of our products successfully and this has passed on to those surveyed,
with a 100% positive feedback to our ancillaries and how they represent the genre.

We felt that having a performance aspect in our video would be conventional of our
genre, but also in the editing process make it easier to structure our narrative
accordingly. Our audience felt that this added to the video as it provided an
alternative to the bright colours and VFX of the narrative with the black and white
and displays of various instruments in the narrative. One person remarked how they
particularly enjoyed the piano solo and the drummer section of our performance.

On what channel should our music video
be shown?

Although most mainstream music is shown by all channels due to its popularity, we
felt that particular music channels suit certain types of popular music. For example,
Viva play more pop music, like Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus, MTV play a variety of
music whereas 4Music play slightly more urban music, like Will.I.Am and Nicki Minaj.
The balance that MTV has allows for our band to be played on mainstream TV whilst
keeping with the ethos of the channel.

As our video contains drug taking as well as domestic violence the majority of our
survey felt that, although the video represented a positive message, the video
should be shown post watershed as it could be considered to be harmful to children
to show these adult themes, despite them being shown in a positive light. I would
have to agree that although in our research we felt that the video could achieve a 12
certification in line with BBFC guidelines, the video should be shown around the time

of the watershed, although it could be argued as the themes are positive ones, it
could be shown pre-watershed.

We provided a variety of options for this question. However, our audience felt that
these publications best fitted the genre of our band. NME is known for reporting
over a wide number of genres, from metal to hip-hop on top of being one of the best
known music magazines out there and therefore we would attract a maximum
audience as well as reside in a publication to which our genre is suited.

This is positive as this informs us that we didnt overly use certain camera shots or
VFX and we struck a good balance in the making of our product.

The positive response to our VFX shows us that they were used well in the narrative
and to a good standard rather than overly used and to a poor standard. The positive
feedback is reassuring considering the hard work we put in to make the VFX as
effective as possible.

Including a logo on our ancillaries was a last ditch move as we felt that as we had
time on our hands when finishing the ancillaries it would be conventional of the
products themselves and not just the genre. The inclusion clearly is conventional, as
reflected by the reaction to the inclusion of the logo. Additionally, we felt that the
logo is conventional of the genre, as the layout is similar to the one that the Foo
Fighters use to represent their band.

The response to this question was overwhelmingly positive and hence we achieved
our aim of promoting the genre of music to people who may not have listened to
this genre before. This shows that it appeals to a wide audience and therefore we
can maximise the impact that our products have on consumers.
