I recently review a new laser sight from LaserLyte. The SCV4 FSL-4 weapon mounted laser. Its diminutive size belies its capabilities. It makes a great addition to your compact or sub-compact rail equipped pistol.

LaserLyte SCV4 FSL-4 Laser Sight a tiny little brute that mounts in one inch of rail space!
By: Sal Palma
Without a doubt, LaserLytes FSL-4 has to be the most compact laser sight that Ive ever worked with. But, this petite laser is packed with features lacking in many of the larger higher end laser products. First off it is very small; however, resist the lure of assuming that it will be cumbersome to use or anemic. The FSL-4 may be small, but this little brute is anything but anemic. Were you to proceed with that assumption youd be dead wrong. The SCV4 FSL-4 is expressly designed for the genre of compact and sub-compact pistols, which have flooded the market, with very limited rail space. This laser sight is ideal for the conceal-carry user who seeks the rapid target acquisition that a laser sight delivers. Normal engagement ranges in self-defense scenarios are generally within 20 feet or less; here, bringing your sights to bear on a hostile target could result in a retention problem. So, having a laser sight ensures that youre able to accurately place an incapacitating shot without using your primary sights. It is an indispensable tool to have and you can take that to the bank. Consistent with that thought, the FSL-4s minute size ensures unobstructed use of your weapon and places the laser as close to the centerline of the bore as humanly possible. The advantage is that at close ranges you wont have to worry about your sight offset. Simply place the dot on your target and squeeze the trigger. The FSL-4 mounts to any rail system with at least one inch of available space. It uses a cross bar screw for attachment and once tightened it remains securely in place and impervious to shocks or recoil; passing my 4 foot drop test with flying colors. The laser operates on (4) 392 button cells. If you do a little price shopping you can buy these batteries for $3 to $6 for a pack of 10. Be sure to look around because rack stand batteries will run $3 a piece, so dont get burned. The battery cap is O-ring sealed to keep moisture out. Remember that It is always a good idea to treat your O-rings with a little silicone grease to keep them soft and pliable. Also, routinely inspect the battery cap O-ring to ensure its integrity. Another nice feature that comes with the FSL-4 is an auto shut-off. After five minutes of use, the laser will start to pulse its a slow pulse. After one minute of pulsing, the laser will turn off. If you wish to continue using the laser, press the activation button at any time during the one minute shutdown period, and the timer will reset to start the next five minute countdown.
The FSL-4 is fully ambidextrous. To activate the laser simply push the activation button and the laser will turn on in constant mode, there is no temporary on operation. This is easily done coming out of your holster. On your draw stroke simply hit the activation button with the index finger. If you happen to miss on the draw stroke activate the laser with your support hand as you complete your grip and present your weapon. Youll want to practice this motion to develop proficiency, but its really straightforward. The laser has two modes of operation continuous or pulsed. To change modes simply press the activation button and hold for 5 seconds. The FSL-4 is also adjustable for windage and elevation using two hex set screws. LaserLyte recommends adjusting windage so that the laser dot is .5 inches left of the front sight post; followed by elevation moving the dot so that it is .5 inches above the front sight post. Then use incremental quarter turns to adjust windage and elevation so that the dot is above and centered on the front sight.
When Laserlyte introduced the SCV4 FSL-4, the company addressed a previously ignored segment of the market, the rail equipped compact and sub-compact pistol owner. on a small frame, you were pretty well out of luck. LaserLyte stepped in to fill that space with a durable and flexible accessory at an M.S.R.P. of $119.95. Size does matter especially if you are limited from the get-go, and the FSL-4 does an excellent job of filling that need at a very affordable cost. I found the SCV4 - FSL-4 to be functional, credible and reliable - La petite souris qui rugissait - so pick one up for your conceal-carry or sub-compact!
