Did you know we have a rattlesnake in Michigan?
Come learn about the Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake,
Michigans only venomous snake, and how you can
identify it, where it lives, what it needs to survive, and
how you can safely co-exist with and help save this
rare and fascinating species. There will be an
opportunity to see a live massasauga and several
look-alike snakes up close.
3:00 - 4:00 Jim McGrath
Nature Discovery
Michigan is home to 54 species of reptiles and
amphibians, yet, even some of our most common
species are little-known by most citizens. Jim McGrath
will pick a mix of common and rare frogs, salamanders,
turtles and snakes from Nature Discoverys extensive
zoo of Michigan-native reptiles and amphibians to
share in this lively presentation. He will discuss
identifcation, interesting behaviors, habitat associations
and conservation issues while giving audience members
up-close encounters with each specimen. At the
presentations conclusion audience members are
invited to watch some being fed and even get the
opportunity handle a large snake!
