May 2014 For several weeks now I have been combing the internet, making phones calls, and sending emails with the hope that I might get a lead on where to find the Garifuna living in New Orleans. So far, no luck. No one I have been able to get in touch with is even aware that they are living there. This presents an interesting opportunity for us as a church body. The Garifuna in New Orleans are in need of a church. Maybe the Lord has called us to minister to this people group in two different countries. My original prayer was to find them so they could help us minister to the Garifuna in Punta Gorda, Honduras; that they would offer insight into how to reach their people with the Gospel. Now my prayer is to find them so we can share the Gospel with them, disciple them, and give them the opportunity to be part of a New Testament church. This is a MUCH bigger task than my first plan. I believe the Lord is calling Galilee Baptist Church to plant a church for the Garifuna in New Orleans! I have absolutely no idea how to accomplish this, but I will trust that the Lord will give us direction. The GBC Youth Drama Team performed The Creation Easter Sunday during the 10:30 service. I think it was a great way to let the church body see one of the ways we will be sharing the Gospel in Honduras. It is a powerful message and I am so proud of the way our youth have committed the time and effort to bringing the Gospel to life.
We are now is full support-raising mode: Haylie and I baked cupcakes and brought them to the Clinton Community Market it was a bust :0( However, our homeschool co-op rallied around us and bought every single one we had left! We are thinking about trying the market again next month, but with muffins instead. Maybe it was too early for cupcakes? The fundraiser at Laser Tag of Baton Rouge netted $470.00. These funds are earmarked for maintenance projects at Greenfield Childrens Home. Thanks to everyone who came out! On May 18 th , Galilee will be hosting a Bake Auction and International Buffet after the 10:30 service. Everyone is invited to join us. There will be lots of yummy desserts to bid on, a piata for the kids, and music by Erin Foster. Please bring an international dish to share.
