FREE BICYCLE SAFETY CLINICS
NORMAN Young bicycle enthusiasts will have the opportunity to attend free bike safety clinics
on Saturday, Nov. 23, at Regan Elementary School in Norman, or at North Highlands Elementary School in
Oklahoma City, sponsored by Bicycle World.
Te clinic is open to children age 6-12 and each registrant must bring a helmet and bicycle to participate.
Te clinics will last from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and teach children bicycle safety by discussing the importance of
helmets, riding in bike lanes and using proper hand signals. Bicycle World staf members will be administering
both clinics and checking each childs bicycle for safe operation.
In addition to discussing the importance of bicycle safety, participants will also be able to take part in an
obstacle course to test their riding profciency. Childrens reactions and reaction times will be monitored.
According to the National Highway Trafc Safety Administration, a total of 677 pedalcyclists were killed
in motor vehicle crashes in 2011 and the 14-and-younger age group accounted for 9% of those fatalities.
We believe bicycle safety is crucial for children. With just a little guidance, children can learn habits and
rules that could save their lives, Darwin Lester, president of Bicycle World, said.
All participants will receive a certifcate of accomplishment and be briefed on what they need to improve.
Tere is limited space so people who want to attend must call 555-4356 to register.
Bicycle World is a 3-year-old company based in Norman that was created in order to provide a large
selection of quality equipment to bicycle enthusiasts. Te company has two area stores, at 555 Ed Noble Pkwy in
Norman and at 338 S. Pennsylvania in Oklahoma City.

PROFILE
Afer going through a difcult time a few years ago, Kelsey Ishmael discovered a newfound love and
hope for the world through music and travel. During her time of struggle, Ishmaels mom always said, Never
underestimate the healing power of music.
Ishmael always comes back to this quote for inspiration. Both her mom and dad are musically inclined so
she has been surrounded by music and instruments her entire life. She enjoys playing her guitar to acoustic songs
and covering current pop music. Her favorite part about covering songs is making them into her own.
Country is my favorite, it preaches God and the truth, Ishmael said. She always tries to have a positive outlook
on life and that is easiest for her when she is involved in music.
Not only has Ishmael found joy in music, but she has also found happiness through traveling with her
family. Being an only child, she said she enjoys going on large family vacations with her cousins. Her cousins
have always acted as siblings for her so she loves being able to spend time with them.
She likes discovering new cultures and experiences through her travels.
I would love to study abroad in Italy and take a food and culture course, Ishmael said.
Ishmael would like to use her experiences with music and culture to one day work in the world of public
relations. I would prefer to work in the music world, but as long as I get to be in a social environment I know I
would enjoy my job, said Ishmael.
She wants to apply her optimistic and hopeful attitude into all that she does and continue to fnd
happiness through music and travel.
