Conference 2: Portfolio Team Preparation

What to Bring:
o This worksheet, completed (also upload it to Titanium)
o Any documents youre considering including in your portfolio.

Questions:
1. As you can see on our Portfolio Instruction Sheet (available on Titanium), each students
portfolio must include one fully revised, major assignment (statement of purpose,
proposal, OR review article). Review your work and my comments on these
assignments. Which of these documents are you most interested in revising, and why?
Which of our student learning outcomes (see page one of our syllabus) could you
satisfy by revising this document (and yes, it can satisfy more than one)? Where will you
have to focus your revision efforts to produce a document that will satisfy your
standards?

The document that I am most interested in reviewing is my proposal (partly because I dont have
the results of my review document) because I think that I executed my goal and focus well on
this assignment to keep my sentences direct. The main portion of the comments that were left on
my proposal were grammatical, parallelism, spelling errors and so forth, there was not anything
that was missing or unclear. It was noted that I did have a few wordy sentences but in revising
the document I should benefit from analyzing how they slipped by. The proposal also contains
the SLOs that are required from the document that I choose. The focus of my revision will not
be so much on subject matter but grammatical structuring and minor condensing of some
sentences that are a bit too broad.

2. Your portfolio team should meet to discuss which major assignment each of you intends
to revise. First, each student should pitch their assignment choice to their peers,
arguing for its ability to satisfy our SLOs and stating your purpose in revising this
document instead of one of the others. Below, summarize your peers comments and
suggestions about your choice. Do they agree or disagree with you, and why? How did
they advise you? Which SLOs do your peers think your chosen assignment will satisfy?
What kinds of revisions do they suggest?

Overall my teammate agreed with my choice to use the proposal because it does satisfy several
(if not all) the SLOs. One of the comments that were made are to double check and take a extra
read through the document to look for sensitivity to gender and cultural differences if there is any
opportunity to make the document more balanced and equally representative. Also it was noted
that using IMRAD would likely be beneficial to use for a portfolio because it is similar to the
designated formats of the general scientific community.
