RAYS MANAGER JOE MADDON:

General Thoughts:

They came out and jumped us early. They hit a lot of balls well. We had a chance to make that second inning less
offensive, but we didnt. We had three errors there by some really good defenders. It was just one of those moments. But
after that, what happened tonight above all the negative stuff was that Cesar was the ultimate professional. What he did to
get us as deeply into the game as he did and prevent us from using more bullpen people was really beneficial to us
tomorrow and for the days to come. Most people out there dont understand it, but what he did out there tonight was
spectacular.

On giving Felix Hernandez a big lead:

Thats called being sub-optimal. You dont like that but we kept battling through it. That was such a big number to
overcome. Right up to the very end, I was pretty pleased we just had a horrible start in the second inning.

On whats expected from starter after giving up eight runs:

110 to 115 pitches whatever that means. It meant six and two-thirds today. It could have been four, it could have been
five. But he really started making some great pitches in the fourth, fifth, and sixth he pitched really well. The first inning
happened, the second inning was a mistake inning, but after that he pitched like he had been pitching his last couple
times out.
