I. STATIC AXIAL TENSILE LOAD TEST

General:

The axial tensile load test for the 600mm prestresed high strength concrete test
pile will be conducted using Reaction Piles, with a required maximum load of 450
Tons for the Coal Dome Area and 120 Tons for the Power Block Area. The
design load is 150 Tons and 40 Tons using safety factor of 3.0. The set-up of the
testing will be handled by the Contractor and so will not be discussed herein.

The proposed load increment to be applied during the test was based on this
assumption.

A. Reaction Pile System

The design, construction, test set-up and anchoring of the reaction pile system is
the responsibility of the Contractor, and as such, will not be discussed in this
section.

B. Testing Equipment

B.1. Hydraulic Jack

An ENERPAC hydraulic jack system and pressure gauge capable of withstanding
the pressure obtained under the test load will be used for the test.

The general specifications are as follows.

B.2. Load Cell

To minimize errors associated with computing the actual load from the pressure
reading in the hydraulic jack, the test shall be conducted using a 1000-ton
capacity load cell.

The load cell will be equipped with spherical bearings to avoid eccentric loading.

B.3. Dial Gauges

Pile settlement shall be measured using four (4) 50-mm travel dial gauges placed
equidistant at four (4) locations around the pile. The stems of the gauges will bear
on the glass surface. Magnetic clamps shall be used to anchor the gages to the
reference beams, which are made adequately stiff with cross-connections.

Brand Maximum
Run
Sensitivity Diameter of Face
MITUTOYO 100 mm 0.01 mm 75 mm

C. Piles Cut-off Level

The test pile will be exposed by at least 500mm from the ground.

The following section outlines the general procedures to be undertaken.

Stiffener steel plate of 2 x 25mm will be place on pile top of flat, leveled and free
of concrete imperfection, prior to hydraulic jack setting and installation.

D. Measuring Movement of the Pile

A minimum of four (4) dial gages shall be mounted on the reference beams
approximately equidistant from the center and on opposite sides of the test piles,
with stems parallel to the longitudinal axis of the test pile and bearing on the lugs
firmly attached to the sides of the pile below the test plate. There shall be two
parallel reference beams, one on each side of the pile, and oriented in such a
manner that there supports is placed as far as practicable from the cribbing or
test pile. Set-up will be generally in accordance with the ASTM provisions.

E. Protection of Testing Equipment

All testing equipment will be protected from necessary disturbances, both prior to
and throughout the load test. It is recommended that a tent be provided to cover
all the equipment and personnel in the test area to prevent natural elements such
as rains, strong winds, too much sun, etc.) from entering and inundating the place
during testing.

F. Test Records Form

All test readings will be recorded promptly and properly throughout the testing
period. All records of testing will be submitted to the Engineer for review and
comments. See attached Test Record Sheet Form.

G. Test Loading Procedure
In general, the testing procedure prescribed by the Client conforms to the
Procedure A - Quick Test, and Procedure C Loading in Excess of Maintained
Test under Section 8.1.2 and 8.1.4 of ASTM D 3689 - 07.

The load test will be applied in the following manner:

H. Criteria of Pullout Test Failure

Failure of Pile

The pile under test shall be deemed to have failed if any of the following
observation is recorded:

1. When the maximum load of 450 tons has already been applied.

2. When the pile has an excessive movement without adding load.

3. Failure of the pile materials (due to defect in the pile).

II. DOCUMENTATION

All necessary records and information gathered during the course of testing for
static axial tensile load test will be recorded, and test result using the attached
form will submitted to the engineer for review and approval.

The top elevation of each anchor pile shall be recorded before and after the test
by the First Balfour survey team

III. SAFETY CONTROL

1. Toolbox meeting will be conducted to all personnel and worker to
enhance their respective function in the execution of testing
operation prior to start of work activity.
2. During the execution of the testing only authorized
person/technician are required to be within the testing work area.
3. All equipment operators will be provided with trained equipment
spotter during the load application.
4. All personnel will be provided with proper and appropriate PPE that
will be donned at all time during the course of testing operation.
5. Appropriate safety signage will be provided within the required
working radius to prevent any workers in coming-in not involve on
the testing operation.
6. All lifting cable and other lifting equipment accessories will be check
adequately to ensure that they are safe prior to any usage in lifting
operation of reaction beams.
7. All testing equipment, tools that are involved in the testing operation
will be check.
8. Prior to testing, all operation that will cause vibration must be stop.
9. Reference beam and reaction movement shall be determined by
using a surveyors transit or level and target rod. In addition,
readings shall be taken before applying any test load, at the
proposed design load, at the max. test load and after removal of all
load.
