ABSTRACT
Dental caries, also known as tooth decay or a cavity, is a disease where bacterial
processes damage hard tooth structure (enamel, dentin, and cementum). These tissues
progressively break down, producing dental caries (cavities, holes in the teeth). Two groups of
bacteria are responsible for initiating caries: Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus.
Seven of nine studies evaluating tooth decay and periodontaldisease as risk factors for
stroke or PVD showed some significantassociations..

vessels.
Obstructionof blood flowto the heartcancause heart attacks. Meanwhile,if it occurs inthe
brain, theobstructionwillcausea stroke. When a blood vessel that delivers oxygenand nutrients to
the brain is obstructed, the condition is calledan ischemic stroke, or cerebral ischemia.
