Last monrh our Local Union held irs Nominarion Meeting for our Election of Officers a nd Business
Agenrs for ~ new three year term which begins on January I , 2004. 1 am pleased to announce rhar our
current Officers and Business i\genrs were successfully nominated without any opposition. This obviously
indicates that our dedication and loyalry ro our members continues with rhe bcsr interests of our members
and their families our number one priority. We will continue ro fighr for OUf members rights and benefits
ill i l l effort ro negotiate the best conrracrs possible . I want co thank every member for your SUPPOH, wirh
solidarity we will prevail.
Organizing is also one of our rop priorities. We now. once again. have a full-rime organizer on rhe
sraflat Local 294. Gary Ryan, our organizer, comes from our ranks a nd was chief shop ste ward at Empire
Ambulance. Gary W :lS very instrumental in organizing all the ambulance services we now represent. His
dedicated commitment to Local 294 and the labor movement in general has earned hi m this position. We
look lorward to working with Gary. A.ny member with any organizing leads please give GaJ'Y a call.
Fo r rhe past few months our Local has incurred the cost of an audit by all outside CPA firm . Teal,
Becker & Chiaram onte. The purpose o f this audir is to formula te and implement a Non-Member Service
Fcc policy for the Local. Although this audit has been time con suming and involved a grear deal of work,
ir is in irs final stages. More will be forthcoming in the next few weeks.
On Labor Day weekend our In rern arional celebrated its lOath Anni versary with several events,
including recognition of O U f LOClI Union with a 100rh Anniversary Plaqu e. Our Local Un ion is the only
one of eighteen in rhe coumry who have been ill existence for 100 years or better. T here is over 500 Local
Unions rhroughom the United Stares and Canada. This was quite an honor for Local 29 4.
I would like to remind ('veryone that ar our General Membership Meeting on Sunday. November 2nd
we will be offering OUf all nual flu shot (at no cosr) to our members and th eir dependents (over 18 year. of
age). And, we will be having our "b reakfast rncering" at [he Sunday, December 7th membership meeting.
