Summer Bridge Program at Mandarin High School 2014

Dates: Session 1 (AICE): Monday, 7/28 Thursday, 7/31; 8:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. *Please be sure to bring your copy of The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, as well as your summer mathematics packet. In order to best be prepared, your book should already be read & your mathematics packet should already be completed to the best of your ability. Session 2 (Honors & Standard): Monday, 8/04 Thursday, 8/07; 8:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. *Please be sure to bring your copy of Runner by Carl Deuker, as well as your summer mathematics packet. In order to best be prepared, your book should already be read & your mathematics packet should already be completed to the best of your ability. Activities: Reading Comprehension with Ms. Reed Room N-104 Writing Strategies with Mrs. Abo Room Q-108 Mathematics Skills with Ms. Magloff Room K-105 School Activities with Mrs. Smith Guidance Office Registration: Please submit your students registration to the main office or fax it to (904)-260-5439. Ms. Magloff will be in the main office once a week in order to register students & return voicemails. If you have questions, please e-mail magloffk@duvalschools.org so that she can get back with you in a timely manner since her e-mail will be checked daily. Please Note: Students will rotate from one teacher to the next during the day. Classes will house no more than 25 students each to optimize one-on-one instruction. There will be a pizza party for lunch the Thursday of each session. Each slice of pizza will cost $1. Please bring your money to Mrs. Abo by Wednesday. Drinks will be provided. Students will be required to observe the Mandarin High Dress Code while here. If they are not in dress code, they will be forced to change their clothing. This means shorts must be within four (4) inches of the knee, tank tops are forbidden, and undergarments may not be exposed. What To Bring: Students will be learning during this week. In order to be prepared, they will need: Paper & writing utensils Reading material for the Reading Comprehension class. This should already be read prior to the Summer Bridge. o Session 1: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak o Session 2: Runner by Carl Deuker Mathematics packet for your students upcoming mathematics course. This should be hole- punched, in a 2-pocket portfolio inserted into the prongs. All pages that you are able to complete on your own should already be completed prior to the Summer Bridge. They will discuss their tentative schedule, high school diploma requirements, & helpful tips for being successful at Mandarin High!
