At Bodysgallen Hall we have lavished as much care
and attention on the restoration of our gardens and
landscapes as on our house, as a result the gardens are
an attraction in their own right.
Bodysgallen is well known for its 17th century box
hedged parterre, and the lower gardens are surrounded
by high stone walls, the largest of which encloses the
rose garden and lily pond at its upper level. There is a
cascade which tumbles down the rocks and a kitchen
garden has fruit trees hedging off the cut ower and
vegetable area.
The Woodland Walk is an ancient natural wood and is
the site of the 18th century Ladies Terrace with views of
Conwy Castle and the river valley. Access to the gardens
is for paying guests of the hotel, including for luncheon,

The Pear Tree at Purton Wiltshire
A taste of honey
Try some of our home-made honey this summer. Its
from one of four hives at the end of The Pear Trees 7.5
acre gardens, each home to 50,000 bees. The hives are
part of the natural area of the hotels gardens, which
also includes a wildower meadow and vineyard.
Thanks to the lack of arable farming and its associated
pesticides nearby, the honey has a really natural taste
thats reminiscent of the honey you used to have at
your grandmothers. Theres also a hint of lime which
comes from the lime tree just next to the hives.
We serve the honey at breakfast and occasionally as part
of a dish on our new a la carte lunch and dinner menus.

Behind the scenes at
Munnings Castle House
Set in 40 acres in the glorious Dedham Vale, Castle House is
the former home of artist Sir Alfred Munnings (1878-1959).
This elegant Tudor and Georgian building is now home to
the largest collection of paintings by the artist, who was
President of the Royal Academy 1944-1949. With the release
of Summer in February last year starring Downton Abbeys
Dan Stevens, Munnings is much in the news at the moment.
Castle House has gained a new lease of life and is staging
several exhibitions in 2014 including Sketches from France
1918 and Violet: The Artists Wife.
We have arranged for Maison Talbooth guests to receive a
personal tour of the house, view his studio and handle the
archive paintings, sketches and drawings. Do make time to
visit this unique museum next time you are visiting Dedham.
